Hi Jeff!

Welcome and how ya been?

For someone with a concern, you have very little information about your snake. I.e, how old is it? Male or female? Size and weight? Eating habits? (Right after a shed, he may be hungry?). How are the temps in your snake's setup? Etc.

If I were to even GUESS and say, well, it's mating season and maybe that's the reason, I would be WAY OFF BASE, because even if that statement has any merit, there are a lot of "what ifs. . ." in problem solving.

A valid and reliable diagnosis of a problem and recommendation for treating that issue depends solely upon a thorough assessment and evaluation of the entire situation and its corresponding players. In other words, I think we need a little more info.

Just sayin.

But welcome dude!

I'm not sure on his age,but I'd say around 1.5-2 yrs old, male, about 3.5-4 ft long, eats one adult mouse every week, and cool side is 73 hot side of 82-86

Temps are good.
Did you just get him or do you have history with him? We need to know his routine. Does he need to eat? That's what I would start with. Give us details please.

I got him last August, he's been great all year except for now, he didn't eat last Friday cuz it was his shed but he does that sometimes so i don't know if it is cuz he's hungry

Hi Jeff.

Seems you are a man of few words. However, it's not a guessing game either, so we can only help you with what you give us.

He may just be hungry.

Did he eat EVERY week since last August? Does he eat live or f/t prey? Have there been any other changes in his life? Have you tried to feed him since his shed?? Details dude. I'm sure we'd be glad to help!

I saw a few small pieces of shed on him, I'm going to give him a bath tonite and try to get that shed off, that might be the problem

Might be. But when was the last time he had a mouse?

BTW, be careful not to scald him; lukewarm water at best. That may do the trick.

Good luck!

2 weeks. That seems like a reasonable length of time between meals, don't ya think? How long does he usually go between mealtimes?

Why does it feel like I'm pulling teeth here?

You can't expect to get a half-decent answer or solution to a problem when the question or problem itself cannot possibly be understood due to a lack of info. It's sorta like me taking my car to a busy mechanic and telling him that my car is not working right, ya know? He's gonna have a ton of questions to kinda narrow it down so he knows what to check for.

So far, I got that your snake hasn't fully shed but that he almost did last Friday. I got his approximate size & age but not his weight. I know now that he hasn't eaten in 2 weeks and that he was "pacing back & forth" on Sunday. I got the temps of his cage but nothing else.

Am I making sense? And maybe this is why just one other person has chimed in but had the smarts I don't have to keep outta this?

I wanna help but obviously need to know more dude! Help US help YOU. You don't have to write as much as I do (Obviously, as even Stevie Wonder can see that I am a little WORDY!). But you can be concise and still get your problem or question across!!

I sincerely hope your little sneaky one is OK.

If your snake is only 1.5-2 years old, feed him! 2 weeks is too long between meals, especially after a shed, even a crappy shed.

Axis, you are more patient than I am. I teach English to the kids who hate English and right about now, with 6 teaching days left, I'm all out of patience when it comes to incomplete responses! Lol.

Yikes!! You DEFINITELY should have a short temper and it's amazing you even responded at all. I am a clinical social worker by profession, so without patience, I'd be out of a job, but I can totally understand. If I had to do what you do, I'd probably be capable of taking the life of a fellow human being by now! LoL!!

Not to discuss someone who should be in the room with us, but I'm sensing there's more here than meets the eye. However, you have a valid point. We aren't mind-readers.

Hey Jeffgugs! Hope your snake is OK dude. Not like we didn't try.

Just sayin'. :headbang:

Littler update: my corn ate on Friday and he's still been acting the same, do u guys think it could be the substrate, I changed him to sani chips just to see how they looked and after that I think that's when he started acting strange

I'd give it a try switching him back to the repti bark. Then, if he's eating, drinking and pooping, I'd just continue as is for another week to see what might happen.

Even though it's getting late in the season, I'd still chalk it up to breeding behavior. The switch to sani-chip might have further agitated him, but it will pass. My cayenne fire seemed to lose his tiny little mind when I moved him from shredded aspen to sani-chip. He wandered restlessly near his water bowl and I later found him sleeping in the most exposed corner of the cage because he seemed to have no idea where his hides were. In a day or two he went back to normal.
