Hey there people

Just bought my first Corn Snake- he's a snow called Archimedes. Had him for five days and just got around to measuring and weighing him. He's just under 15 inches long and weighs about 15 grams. His feeding log shows he was born in late september/early october. Is he too small for his age?

I bought him from a pet shop, overpaid by a disgusting amount and can see from his feeding log they were only feeding him every 9/10 days. I know some of you will say it's my own fault for going to a store and not a breeder, but I've got him now and love him to bits! He's one of the most fascinating, beautiful things I've ever seen.

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Peace
Sam

Sounds within normal range to me. Most shops do keep their hatchlings on a maintenance diet so they don't grow too fast (and probably to keep costs down) Personally I feed snakes on pinks every 5 days, then when they are moved up to peaches and fuzzies I feed every 6 days and so on.

From what I've read - Even if they have been deprived, once you start feeding them they will catch up in growth.

Mine was about twice that weight and eating peach fuzzies at 4 months old. But 2x 14 grams still is a small snake. No big deal.

Congrats on getting Archimedes!

I recently got a corn snake from a pet shop, and I was very concerned with his size. He looked so small. When I went to feed him for the first time, I tried giving him the smallest pink I had. After a few hours, I was getting a little frustrated. He wasn't even interested in it. So, I cut it in half, took out the tail end. Twenty minutes later, it was gone! My snake is just too small to handle an entire pink right now. So, I'm feeding him half of one every 4 days until he gets a little bigger. He's thriving now!!
