Went for a little cruise last night since the moon was finally not out.. Didn't see much till around 9:30 or so when we saw this guy on Calville Bay Road, down close to the lake..

His tongue was sticking out most of the time, so I got lots of tongue shots..

Back up on the main road I saw something small in the road. Turned around and saw this cute little young sidewinder.. It had only 4 buttons.. You don't know how bad I wanted to just take this guy home.. And holy crap was he fast..

Heres his size compared to a flashlight..

And then the little walking stick...

Also saw a few DOR, a patchnose, a coachwhip and a young night snake..

But earlier in the day I saw this guy at Plant World nursery

Wonderful finds! I would've had a hard time not taking that adorable Sidewinder home too. That buzztail almost looks like a Speck. Any idea exactly what species he is? I can't tell for sure. He has some gorgeous colors though! I would have been dumbstruck to roll up on him.

Great finds! Every time I pick up a toad people freak out. The last time they were freaking out telling me it was "poison" and the time before that I had an adult telling me I was going to get warts from the toad. Honestly, she believed I'd get warts.

Nice finds though, some days I regret living in the city.

It is a Speck...C.m. mitchelli. She finds them all over, 'cause she is a brat and likes to make me jealous...;)

Yeah it was a bit hard to leave it there. BUt this one was in the Lake Mead National rec area so I'm not really allowed to take it.. ;) Can't say that I didn't take a ground snake from the same area before I knew it wasnt allowed ;) hehe!!

I regret living in the city, trust me, thats why I go into the mountains so much. Oneday I will leave this town.. Sooner than later I hope.. I just gotta figure out where to go, I'm looking at my options ;)

I know, it is funny the misconceptions people have about animals.. LOL The guy at the nursery was like,"You touch that thing?? its gonna make you sick!!!" Honestly, I think the chances of getting sick from another human are quite higher..

Yep I'm a brat!!! ;) I find lots of speckleds ;) I'll have to take you to the lake area sometime ;) Then you can find them too.

I'm with you on that Chris. Ok now I really hate you... not really, but kind of when I look at that pic! I've never seen a speck with so much color, which is why I questioned it. Such a gorgeous specimen! I have never seen one why out herping. No matter where I go, they always seem to elude me.

Can I come herping with you next time? Either that or you can send me one! :D

Hey you could always come to Az! We have tons of nifty herps. Plus, its a dry heat!

I would so love to come herp out there :D
And if you come here I will take you cruising as well.. It is getting hot though, so they will not need to come up to the roads for thermoregulation much longer..
