Couple of Questions

I wasn't sure where to post this since I have two questions about different topics, so sorry if this is in the wrong place!

First, is it normal for them to have a slightly darker coloration down where I suppose their stomach is? Darwin, from his vent area up his body about 2 inches is a little darker than the rest of him. He's a striped butter, and in the area I mentioned his yellow color turns a little darker, almost like a greenish. I tried to get a picture but when I walked with him over to get my camera he started rattling and didn't seem very happy, so I wanted to leave him alone (this was about 10 minutes into our second handling).

Also, how long does it normally take them to digest? I read on here someone said around 72 hours, but it's been over 72 hours and he hasn't pooped. Should I be worried? I handled him, fully expecting to have him go on me ( :puke01: ) but he didn't. His first feeding with me was Friday night, and he did spend the following day under his hot side hide, under the paper towels right above the heat mat.

Thanks for the help!!

Is it possible you're seeing the shadow of his lungs or stomach? I have a butter motley and I can see his insides if he's in the right light, especially his heart/gall bladder. Look up a diagram of snake anatomy and see if anything lines up. I'm willing to be it's probably his gall bladder.

The 48/72 hour rule is usually just how long you should wait after eating to handle them. I've heard of snakes pooping after that, so I wouldn't be worried. If you want to try to coax him to poop you can give him a soak; sometimes the water will relax them into a bowel movement.

Thank you! I was thinking I was probably just seeing his insides because his color is so light, but I wanted to make sure that was even possible before I just assumed. lol

I don't think I want to give him a soak just yet. He seemed to be getting a little agitated while I was handling him (10 minutes might have been a little too long for him at first), so I think I'll just wait a little longer.

You're welcome! That was actually something I stressed about a lot when I first got my snake; I thought that somehow he'd already gotten scale rot or his belly had managed to get burned. But apparently it's fairly easy to see their insides when they're missing the checks on their bellies C:

I'm sure he'll be fine. Probably within the next day or so you'll find a nice big poop on the paper towel.

I bet since he is due to poop and the area where you are seeing the dark coloration is down near his vent... what you are seeing is probably his poop.

It definitely is possible to see the dark colored internal organs on lighter colored snakes. His stomach, which is not so dark colored unless it has something dark colored in it, is in the area where the lump stops after he feeds.
