I asked them how they managed to breed an egg layer with a live bearer as it was impossible without some jurassic park stuff going on, and she said that she saw it happen. They were native wandering garters though... What a story.

You don't need Craig's list to find idiots. I had a woman contact me today asking about Copperheads. Seems her son had caught one a couple of months ago and evidently it was gravid. Had 7 babies but now there's only 4....read somewhere that copperheads will eat their babies, eat crickets and that sort of thing. I told her no, they don't eat crickets but I guess it might eat it's young..however unlikely. She had just eaten the week before (surprised that a gravid female would take food but she did).There's evidently a small hole where the two lids meet on top...too big for the adult but plenty big enough for a baby copperhead. She wanted to know if I thought they could get out. I told her um....yes I believe they could. Watch where you stick your hands! I also told her she needed to separate the babies and secure the cage. We talked for a while on the responsibility of keeping a venomous reptile. She agreed it probably wasn't all that wise to allow her 16 yr. old son to have it but he was just going to observe her for a while and then release her again. He also feeds live to all his other snakes, which I recommended against due to the risk of injury. I also told her to stop feeding crickets to the babies or the mother, they can't metabolize the exoskeleton. I also told her to find another website to get information on copperheads...yikes! just what I need. Someone getting bitten and making it harder for me to keep my stuff :(

I found a corn snake on craigslist today, and the ad says that the lady wants $100 for the snake and the set up because she cannot afford to feed the snake and needs to pay bills, and then she goes on to say that she is going to either let the snake starve to death or put it outside in the middle of winter. I emailed her, saying that I would gladly take the snake but since she is willing to throw it outside, I won't pay any money. I got a rather nasty email back saying that she needs money and I needed to get off my high horse and that the snake was going outside if she can't get the money. *face palm* How does this make sense? The outside won't pay her $100... so if she's willing to toss it out in the snow.. why is she not willing to give it to a good home?
