craigslist reptiles

Michelle's Candied Corns!
I wish I had the space and money to take in all the mistreated reptiles I see on craigslist :(
Tonight on Denver CL= "5 foot boa, comes with her 30 gallon tank and heater"
Maybe I should show my snakes that ad so they see how lucky they are..
I've seen so many sick and skinny snakes on there that everytime I get on I am sad. I helped rescue a pair of cohabbed ball pythons once that had not eaten in over a year (from stress I assume). Stuck sheds and eyes that had sunken in.. I soaked them and literally overnight they turned around. They ate fine for me and someone else was eager to take them (they now live in very luxurious 5 foot cages with waterfalls and fed weekly. haha). I am glad those two found good homes but I am scared for what ends up to the others :(
Such a random thread, but it was on my mind. If my other cage was not reserved for my corns, I'd go get that poor boa.

Ali I know what you mean. I just rehome a puppie from CL list. He was a poodle mix and his bother was taking all the food, but the owner did not know that he almost died. Now he is living with a nice young lady that live next to a lake and take him running. We dont get to many snake on CL list There are a few peolp are taking in some unwanted ones. There is a Breadie on mine in a 10 gallon tank I had the room and the money he would be with me.

It's so sad what people do to their animals :(
There is also a guy on our CL in COSprings that adopted a tegu from the humane society, not ten minutes after he adopted it, he put it up on CL as "tame" and needing a new home wanting $200 for it. He got it from the humane society for $35. It's also super aggressive :/

Real quality. I'm hoping, that the animal was not actually kept in that tank- because he mentions it has no lid. So at least there's some sort of positive outlook on it. The fact he's selling it with a 30 gallon is ridiculous though.

If I had a dollar for every retard we've met off craigslist, I'd have like. $40 right now, I hate the place can't wait to stop using it.

Looking and doing nothing does the same amount of nothing as not looking at it does.

However, not looking and thus not feeling the urge to help the animals keeps you from doing so which may go wrong, end up costing a lot of money, and introducing disease to your home and own established collection.

I don't worry too much about the money aspect, money isn't everything in this world, there's always plenty more of it around.

If you're careful with the animals you take in, I don't see "Disease" as such a huge issue.

Money is still a very necessary part of life though. Happiness or a rehabilitated reptile won't pay your mortgage. :(

I have to agree with Shenzi on this one...I avoid places like Craigs' List because I know that I'd want to help/rescue animals on there...and we really can't afford it.

As much as I'd love to be able to rescue them all...mortgage and family needs come first :/ (and yes, I'm including the pets I have as part of the family). Looking at places like Craig's List just fill me with impotent frustration.

"Only needs a lid". :sidestep:

How are they containing a 5ft RTB in a 30 gal with no lid?! "Comes with a tank with no lid"... dang.. that's not really coming with a tank at all! :smash:

I wonder if they are keeping its original viv, and offering a spare tank to go with the snake, as opposed to nothing at all. That seems more likely, and I hope that's the case.

How's this for the defintion of irony---this person listed this Sand Boa as a 'Pueblan apricot milk snake' a 'very rare breed of milk snake' & tells people to do their research first before buying it......duhhhh LOL I emailed them & told them it was a sand boa,I'm curious if they'll correct it..http://houston.craigslist.org/pet/2589025523.html

Oh god. I see these "hypocrite" posts ALL THE TIME. People whose pets are on death's door, TOTALLY mistreated, not remotely well taken care of, and/or just completely misidentified... And then they turn around and say "Make sure you research how to take care of this animal!!!"

It's especially bad with things like beardies and tortoises. You'll see an adult in a 10 or 20 gal, with no UVB, on sand, being fed nothing but romaine, and they say this all with some sick pride and follow it up immediately with "Please do your research before contacting" or something like that. UGH.

Craigslist, and local variants, are awful. But it is hard not to be curious what pops up each day... I'll admit, I still skim KSL daily, even though it makes me sick sometimes and I'm too broke to rescue any of the ones that pull at my heartstrings.

Hmm... Honestly, I wouldn't like buying them. The people just get a reward for it and it supports them. Kind of like buying puppies from a puppy mill. To be honest, when I see it I get so POd and have to do somthing about it -w-. I don't know how many times I've chased after dogs in the streets to feed them ETC

Well, they didn't delete or correct the old ad,they just made a new one labeling it as a Keyan sand boa now...maybe they actually did some research themselves LOL http://houston.craigslist.org/pet/2590730314.html
I usually just scan Craigslist for tanks people are getting rid of,but you always come across stuff like this...it's actually worse with dogs..I've seen the call lots of dogs by the wrong breeds..how dod you not know what kind of animal you have as a pet? blows my mind

I found a CL ad today that was labeled Cali king snake, but it was actually a FL king snake. I emailed them, I wonder if they will change it? I think it was in a Denver post.

Found a free RTB on craigslist today, or $50 with a 50gal viv. So tempting. If only I had the time to spend with more snakes.

I've gotten 1 snake from CL. It is a ball python. Actually well taken care of. Though I do see snakes who DO have owners like that... It makes me sad...

I typically don't get on CL to look for reptiles, but I look for free supplies I might be able to use in my cages haha. I did get my hognose off CL yesterday though, and he seems pretty healthy. He looks like he may have had a rough shed, but I'll have that cleared up in a jiffy.
I too see weird CL ads, a few weeks back there was an ad for corn crosses, so I emailed them, expecting Jungle corns, and got a reply saying they were ribbon snake x corn crosses. I asked them how they managed to breed an egg layer with a live bearer as it was impossible without some jurassic park stuff going on, and she said that she saw it happen. They were native wandering garters though... What a story.
