Dave Matthews Band - anyone else?

Anybody else on the boards like this band? It seems like I'm about the only one around my town that does, but I know they're still huge elsewhere. They make amazing music though, if you disregard their previous 3 studio albums :shrugs:

Also, just to clear up a common misconception...Yes, I'm a fan of this band, and no, we don't all smoke pot and wear hemp clothing.

NOOOOOOOO!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like a few of the songs. Mostly it's just annoying. Around here people act like being a "Dave freak" is a prerequisite for going to college. It's the "cool thing to do". I can't stand that sort of bandwagoning (if that's a word).
Now I realize there are true, honest fans that have always liked the music and that's great. It's just the fake fans that bother me.

Okay, I realize that probably seemed pretty rage-filled, but I don't get to express that view point very often :)

I bought "Under The Table And Dreaming", on a whim, the first week it was released. I haven't looked back - then again, I'm not obsessed with them (I save that for Mssrs. Fagen - currently my avatar - and Becker).Meanwhile, I've been on such a Ben Folds kick over the past two months, I haven't much attention, musically, to anything else.

jazz

Not that I have ADHD.....

Mea culpa. The above should read, "I haven't paid much attention...."

My sentiments exactly. It would be almost impossible to find a person at my university when I was there that didn't like Dave Matthews Band. That alone made me dislike them. :shrugs: just the way I am.

Oh, that and the fact that their tour bus would dump raw sewage in the rivers of the cities that they visit. Proven one day when they dumped it on top of a boat full of people. I kid you not.

Really? I don't think I met another person at my college that liked the band. If it wasn't rap, nobody listens to it at Penn State.

And the bus thing...it's not like the band collectively said "Hey, wouldn't it be fun to sh*t on that boatload of people down there?"...it was the bus driver. Regardless, that doesn't change the quality of the music.

I have liked them for quite a while. I am into pretty much any kind of improvisational music or music I think has an original sound. I like bluegrass, country, phish, dead, string cheese incident, bela fleck, tony rice, black eyed peas...heck, I like it all. :)
I have seen them in concert quite a few times and they are great. I originally liked them because of the acoustic aspect. I used to play nothing but acoustic guitars(Martin guitars) and really liked some of the sounds he made. I have some of their concerts on cd which are the best option...forget the studio albums. :sobstory:

ya im a fan but im not a huge fan, I have even seen them a couple times. once in Giants Satdium and another time at the Horde.

right on... their last 3 studio albums have been bad in my opinion, but their live albums are great (even if they happen to be the same songs that suck on the studio album). Luckily they have an open taping policy, so that makes it nice.

Howdy Folks!
I love a wide variety of music, but Dave Matthews is one of my favorites. I used to live in Charlottesville, Virginia (for a few years). Dave Matthews is from there. When I lived there, he used to play at a local bar (small place) every Thursday night, you could get in for a few bucks. HOWEVER... I worked 70 hours a week, and never got the chance to go! My friends were like, "come on you got to see this guy"! I was like, "sooo tired, must sleep". Dang it, I will be kicking myself forever for not going. :bang: (They said he was a really nice guy too. He recently bought a huge piece of land there just for conservation.) I did see him in a big concert hall in San Antonio. He was great, of course, and the musicianship was incredible. I used to be a musician (rock and punk) about 15 years ago, so I really appreciate the quality of the music. (Though non-musicians do too I'm sure). Its like the band Rush. They are jaw-dropping talented.
A couple of other music stories:
I saw (in concert), and then met Billy Bob Thornton, here in Austin. He was very nice, and the concert was fun. I also saw, and briefly spoke to, Russell Crowe, when his band played here. That was also really fun, and he was nice too. When I met Pete Yorn, he wasn't so nice, but the music was good. Oh yeah, unrelated to music, I met Sissy Spacek and her daughter in Charlottesville (they live near there). She was stand-offish, but her daughter was nice.

Miller's! We were coming back from Myrtle Beach a few years ago and decided to stop in C'ville on the way past. That town has a really cool vibe. We were there in mid June I think, so UVA was out for the summer but there were still all kinds of musicians out and about in that main little area (I'm sure it has a name) by Millers. I also had to go and find the big pink warehouse (where Dave was living when he wrote Warehouse) just so I could say I did  .

I LOVED Charlottesville. You're right, it has a good vibe. It was hard for me to get by there though. I still have good friends, I haven't talked to for a while, that live there.
