Dead in Egg...Anery? Normal? or What?

CornCrazy

What's one more???
I have a clutch of eggs that are not due to hatch for another couple of weeks. Well, on of the eggs went bad, and this is the baby I cut out of it. The parents of this baby are a normal motley and a snow. I don't know if either of them are het for anything. To me this baby looks like an anery or a ghost. I was wanting some other opinions, though.

Thanks everyone!

And...look at the pattern...

that surprised me, too. Why is it that it is always a pretty baby that doesn't make it?:(

Oh yeah - the little one only had a few checks on its belly. Is that a common occurance for snakes which are het motley?

Strange things can happen all the way around with these little deformed ones. I had this happen last year, in a second clutch egg that I cut open had a baby with this exact coloring. Since in the first clutch I got 20 babies that were all normal or hypo, I am pretty confidant that the parents were not het anery. I also had a kinked baby from another second clutch that had no belly checks when all it's first clutch siblings had belly checkers. So don't count on reading too much into what your clutch will look like based on this little one. Hopefully this will be the last one like this.

Sorry to hear about your hatchling... that's a cool headpattern too... hopefully atleast one of the siblings will hatch out with it.

sorry

sorry to hear bout what happend.. is it me or does the patter on the head kinda look like a smiley face???

Thanks for all of your replies...

I really appreciate it.

Carol,
I'm not so sure it was deformed. I know it's head looks a little strange in this picture, but it doesn't look like that really. It's mostly the angle. It does look a little underdeveloped, however. It wasn't supposed to hatch for another couple of weeks or so.

It does make sense to not base what the rest of the clutch will look like on this little one, though.

Thanks again!

Oh, it could be just the angle of the pic, it looked like it had some kinks. Either way, the one I had hatch "not right" was the same color. Good Luck with the rest of them!

Carol-

I couldn't feel any kinks. I hope the others do fine. It would be neat if my normal motley was het anery, though. I mostly want one of the other ones to have to pretty pattern this one has. I hope everything else goes well, and I find out in a couple of weeks.

Terry,
I lost a snow out of a mixed clutch last season--it was obvious!
I agree with the majority on this one --it could be anything--ghost-anery-normal. The only thing I would rule out is amelanistic.
