Old enough to know better
My cordless headphones were falling apart, and I need new ones so I can watch TV in bed without bothering Jim. I had a great set of Sennheisers that lasted me about 8 years, but it was time for a new set.

I looked on eBay, and found a set of HDR 140s that said "broken, use for parts" for $40, no base. The seller said they were untested.

I called Sennheiser and they told me that the 140s were compatible with my old base. I bought them, just had a good feeling, and when they came I realized the problem: no one had bothered to take the thin plastic piece out from under the ear pad so the battery could power the set! I pulled it out, they are brand new and perfect.

They don't make them anymore, but the other new pairs I found ranged between $150-$500, no base either, these were secondary sets.

My second deal was a new portable AC. We found a Whynter ARC 14S 14,000 BTU unit we really wanted, but they were between $500-$800. Best Buy had them for $479 with a 20% off coupon and free delivery. We purchased the 4 year extended warranty (I don't usually buy those, but we bought a portable AC two years ago, used it for a total of 4 months and the fan blades all cracked and broke, probably from the heat and dry weather). I contacted the company we bought it from, they were out of business, so we called the manufacturer and they refused to help us even FIND the part on their website. Even if it was only the fan ($50 part) the motor we think is blown too from trying to make the fan work for the two days we tried to use it this summer. That would be another $200. Now, with this new Whynter unit, the warranty will be 5 years that covers EVERYTHING and 7 years to cover the compressor. We have had the home AC set at 72° for over a month, I know the bill will be sky high. This will help a lot, we won't have to cool the whole house when we only really use the bedroom except on our days off. With everything, including free delivery and the extended warranty it was just over $500!

I filed with the BBB about the company (Edgestar) and they basically told me tough beans.

So heads up, DO NOT buy from Edgestar, bad customer service and crappy products.

And if anyone is in the market for any appliances, Best Buy is having a 20% off sale on almost everything!

Bargains make me happy!

Good info, thanks for sharing. Prices seem all over the place on air conds. What the dif between an air conditioner and an evaporative air cooler anyways?

I think the title of this thread has attracted a number of spammers. And these were done better than most, the posters answered the OP and dropped links as if being helpful. Since it's a year old, I hope you don't mind me locking this thread.
