Hi guys.
so...Dezmond hasnt eaten fir like 4 weeks. but he looks in great health and his activity has been normal so im not too worried. I went into the shop and they said that he might be a bit cold and i really should have a basking bulb in the tank for Dezmond.
So i did a lot of re-arranging for him to get him a nice heat lamp in there in a spot that isnt going to be dangerous for him. I put all the plants to the left of the tank providing lots of shade and cool dark areas for him, then the area on the right and the hide on the right will be a hot spot for him. Im goin to get a timer sorted for the bulb so it comes on in like hour intivals or something.
Here it is.......
still with Gollum..........lol

He can still get up to the light and hurt himself.
Unless you know for a fact the tank is cold you got suckered into buying something you don't need.
Something you do seem to need however are better thermomters, you can't really hope to get accurate readings with the stick on ones.

Yeah, Iwould ditch the light, or find a better way to use it. You don't want your precious to burn himself.
Is that a cord for an under tank heater I see? If it is it should be enough heat.

no i dont want my precious to burn himself.
im really confused at the minute guys. im a very responsible snake owner and i love my snake to bits but he hasnt eaten for 4 weeks and the guys at the shop said this would probably solve the issue. And i must admit to you peeps, when its on, that thing is hot! and i am not happy at all with it at the min!
i just dont know what to do!
take it out leave it in? get a cage for the light but its a glass tank so that would be awquard? get a timer?
Ye that is an undertank heater that you can see, but they said i should have a basking spot for him on the other side as well.
like i said im really stressed about this issue at the min and i just need someone to tell me what to do.
What do you guys think the best solution is?

Don't stress too much. They can go for quite a while without eating, so it's not yet an emergency.
Don't try too much, if he doesn't eat wait another feeding interval.
You can look on this site for info on non-feeders, use the search feature. Also check the stickys at the top of the forums for heating, etc. It looks like your viv will be fine, looks nice too, just need a way to check the temp.
For a few different reasons snakes will go without eating, if you make sure you have a good environment you can check that off of the list.
If you can't find answers ask in the Husbandry/Basic Care and Health Issues/Feeding Problems.

It's also quite possible that he's gone off feed because that's the time of year it is for boy snakes. As long as he's not losing weight and nothing else is obviously wrong I wouldn't worry at all :)
Like I said, I think the shop, while they might have been genuinely trying to help you out, also saw a way to get you to buy more stuff. As long as his temps are fine you don't need the lamp, I suggest returning it, and in it's place buying at least one digital thermometer that way you know you're accurately measuring his temps.

Hi guys,
so youl be glad to hear that i have took the bulb OUT! and i have to say that i felt 100 percent better as soon as that thing was out of my precious ones tank! lol i think it was an accident waiting to happen.
I have however added some more plants to the right hand side of his tank because i thought it was a bit empty. So my snake has had a complete tank revamp for nothing! lol oh well. he deserves it.
Iv left the bulb attachment thingy still in there for now though because if i take it out there will be a little hole in the mesh and i dont want him to escape so for now it can stay like it is. Until i find something to cover the whole up with.
Oh ye......he ate this morning as well!!!! i got him two small mice (smaller than usual) and he ate one of them, an left the other. Im just pleased he ate somethin.
Heres his new tank set up complete with some other pics.....
thanks for all the help everyone.....
