Different type of hairless mice, it seems

Hi.... Most of what I've read about hairless mice they say that the mice start out naked (of course) then grow hair, and then slowly loose it all, starting from the head on back, and then remain hairless the rest of their lives. Well I have a few babies here that started out naked and have stayed naked except that they grew hair on their head, and now that they are a little bigger I see that it is really just on the face... unless it has already started to fall out. They just openned their eyes so I'll let you know if they loose any more... if I keep them. Does anyone have any idea why the difference?

Thanks,
MissHisssss.

Hmm... At the lab I work at, we work with nude mice, which are pretty much hairless their entire lives, and some grow some scraggly patches on their face (sorta like fuzz). Maybe you popped some nude mice by accident :D.

Hi 13mur6

I guess that there are two types of nude genes then, since both act so different with one type being nude all their lives and the other growing an entire body of hair before they loose it all. Just curious as to how many people had the ones that are naked their intire lives since the majority of people I've read info from have the type that grows hair first before loosing it.

Naked mice, oh my goodness...

My son used to raise the nude mice. Always hairless.
They are Fugly....
Kinda of a Funny lookin' ugly, so much so they are cute.;)

Didn't pay much attention when he brought them home,
6 months later...it looked like that old star trac with the population explosion of Tribbles on board the Enterprize...
millions and millions of tribbles breeding and breeding some more spilling out all over the place. Okay, maybe he didn't have millions in his room (dozens), they do look almost alien though. ;) :)

Aaaa come on Cowboyway.... give me more than that. So which type did he raise. The ones that were nude from start to finish, or the ones that get hair and loose it?
