Dividing a larger tank?

If you were going to divide a 48"x12" tank with plexiglass to separate 2 snakes what would you do with them while the silicone dries??

The reason I'm asking is because someone is selling 2 corn snakes and their setup on a facebook pet group I'm on. She has them both in a 50gal tank. They are supposedly 2 years'ish old, and ones a male the other a female. She called the female an Okeetee, but it looks like a Miami and she called the male a Snowflake eel. What the heck?? All I call tell in the crappy cell pic's she sent is it's all white. Would it be incredibly stupid of me to take them on? She's asking $100 for them and their setup. Oh and their heat lamp broke so they are heatless atm

Thanks for any advise!

$100 sounds like a fair price to me (when you add them up individually). Why not set them up in an alternate home in the meantime? Until you no longer smell the fumes from the silicone & it has set.

From what I gather on here many people put them in plastic containers?

Good grief, why didn't I remember about totes?? Lol. What size would be good? Would 24hrs be long enough to let the silicone dry? Should they be seperated right away? Does anyone think getting them is a bad idea?

The price sounds great for everything and yeah a couple large totes for a day or two would be fine while your silicon sets with the divider wall.

I can't remember how long you have to wait for it to cure before you can put an animal back in.

Why do you think it could it be a bad idea? If you can afford it & can look after them properly...:shrugs:

I have learned so much from this forum but have no real experience. I didn't know if it would be a smart idea for a newb to take in not one but two snakes that have had questionable care.....

I think you'll be fine getting them if you separate them. Caring for one snake is just like caring for two :) or three, or four, or forty.

Oh no, don't say that. My daughter is the one who originally wanted a reptilian pet. And she says even if we get these she still wants to get one for herself from a breeder. Hmmm at this rate we might have to figure out build ourselves a rack as a summer project ;)

Here are the cell pic's that the lady sent me.

She said this was a 2 yr old female Okeetee, looks like a Miami to me though, thoughts?

She said this one was an almost 2 yr old male Snowflake eel. Is that even a morph??

& Here is their tank, she said she just cleaned it, and put it all back together.
There's no heat source and I don't see a water dish either :(

I am going to get them :)

I saw a picture yesterday of a buckskin okeetee, which was gorgeous, and that one looks very similar.....but I'm new to cornsnakes, and technically know next to nothing! I also don't believe there's such thing as a snowflake eel lol...But people will come up with anything to call a snake in order to make a buck.

Anyways, I would totally get them too. There's a few temporary heat options that will get you through a few days while the silicone airs out. Good luck and nice snag on those beauties :)

The main problem I have with this question:

Splitting a 48x12 tank means either 2 24x12 or 2 48x6 living areas.

Neither set of dimensions (24x12 or 48x6) is an appropriate size
for an adult corn.

Seperating them is good, but cramping them into too small of a space is bad.

Yes I know, but neither of them look to be anywhere close to adult size right now, so I figured they would be ok "sharing" the 55gal tank for awhile. I was planning on splitting it in half so they each get 24x12 and it's a tall tank so I was going to put some vines and stuff in there for them so they can climb up, if they want. In 6mo to a yr I'll either get another tank (and remove the divider in this one) or build a rack (and get more snakes) :D Does that sound like the right plan?

The male seems to look half the size of the female?
Forgot to multi-quote. Yea I know, I'm not sure how often they were being fed, the lady was a bit vague :( When I pick them up I'm going to ask the last time they ate and when they last shed.

Should I get some Nutri-bac?

The set up you're working towards is fine for right now since they're not adult size and yeah I don't know what in the world a snowflake eel is...He looks like a snow or a blizzard from the picture but cell phones are awful for details. I'm also going with the fact that the female is not an okeetee it just doesn't look right with the borders or colors. Glad you decided to get them.

Just wanted to update. We did go pick these guys up Saturday. It was a bit of a fiasco though. Sorry in advance for the novel, I just gotta get it out.

I sent the lady a text letting her know it was about an hour drive for us and approximately what time we would be there. We were 30mins away and on schedule; when she sent me a text saying she was going to a friends house but her husband would be there with one of his friends to help load the tank. We get there and he isn't there, we have to wait in their driveway for like 10mins for him, Gah (the first of many Gah's).

While sitting there I'm noticing that their house is a mess from the outside. There was one window open (it was 12 degrees F outside) with the curtain flopped out, another window had a big hole in the glass and their trash bins were overflowing full, like they hadn't been picked up in weeks. The husband finally gets there and he goes inside to put away the dog that was now hanging out of the open window barking at us. Dog all put away, I locked my girls in the truck and went into the GROSSEST house I've ever been in. The floors were all bare particle wood and were dirty, stained and stunk. There was staples and tack board indicating there had been carpet at one time, but I think it probably crawled away on it's own. The walls were dirty, the was ceiling dirty, everything was dirty!!!! Gah, all I wanted was to make a quick inspection of the snakes and get out.

The husband takes the lid off the tank (no clips holding it on) and moves aside for me to look for them. I found the female right away but the male wasn't in there. The guy got a flashlight and I looked again, nope not there. Awww crap & Gah... I just wanted to get out of there so I offered him $80 for the female and the tank & he said I'd have to talk with his wife, really?? Fine, I just had to get outta that house, luckily I had left my phone with my girls. Back in the safety of my truck I sent the lady a text & she declined my offer. Swell. I decided that I couldn't leave the poor female there. Who lives in squalor like that??

The husband and his friend got her all loaded and I handed over the money and then he says well if we find the male we'll bring him to you. Ooohhhh no, like H-E double hockey sticks you will, is what I wanted to say, but I just said nah we live an hour away we'll meet you halfway. No way was I going to tell this guy where we live!! I said thank you got in the truck, locked my doors and was explaining to my girls that one of the snakes had gotten out so we were just bringing one home & telling them No they couldn't go inside and look for him. As I was getting ready to put the truck in reverse the husbands friend comes running out of the house saying they found the male. The husband comes out of the house dangling this poor tiny snake from his fingertips in 12 degree weather, GAH! I quick opened the back of the truck and got the top off the tank and he just drops him in, GAHHH again. I was very happy to drive away!!

I tried taking some pictures when we got home and were moving them into their tubs, but the lighting was bad. They were so thirsty, both of them started drinking before I could even put them down. Sunday I gave them fresh water and new paper towels in their tubs and snapped a few pic's. I'll try to get them uploaded Monday sometime.

PS My truck is a Suburban, not a pickup, they were inside a heated vehicle. I also put 2 tupperware containers with handwarmers in the tank with them.

OMG, that story skeeved me out, but I am glad those two corns now have a better home with someone who knows what they're doing.

Oh my what an ordeal! Thank goodness they are safe now.

Gotta love suburbans! Up until last May, we had a 1977 GMC classic sierra (454 motor, so lots of muscle under that hood). I LOVED that truck! But unfortunatly it started to have that "Flinstone" feature... sun roofs are meant for the roof, not to see the pavement underneath. ;)

Their house sounds like ours unfortunately but we have a good excuse: we're actually doing intense renovating.

Oh my... blech! Mine has been close to that many times (our old dog passed away at the end of summer & poor thing didn't have bowel control anymore) but at least we cleaned up after her. "Odeur de Poop" is not my favourite perfumy smell.

At least your mind is at ease that you've done something good in taking on those two snakes! Can't wait to see photos! :)
