DIY solar panels (Any info?)

I haven't heard of any grant money for that specifically but I have heard of (atleast around here) of grants for making your house more "green" and energy efficiant so there may be some out. I would try calling your local court house or public assistance office (they should know who to talk to) and ask them if they know who to talk to about something such like this. Atleast thats where I would start. From what I hear though you can get some Solar panel kits for pretty decent prices these days. Also another thing to consider (If you live in an area with high winds) a Windmill is also another one that can be bought for a decent price. I know up here in Alaska there is a compony that sells the turbine and blade assembly for $1000 but then you have to get your own pole to put it on but that wouldnt be nearly as much as the mill I would think. We have a Radio Station over in Wasilla that runs almost completely off of thier wind mill.

Yes, I plan on asking the local offices, just what to know if anyone been there.

Seems like the work itself is rather simple. Install brackets to hold the panels and run wire. I have a friend who is an electrician so that should go fine. I'm searching the net now but I'm getting info overload from the Ads to real info. It seem like you might have to regaster you solar pannel hook up too!! Go figure.

O well thats bs if they make you register your solor dishes! I know in some places if you feed back into the power lines they actually have to pay you but not all. Like I know up here where I live the local power compony will not pay for any power that you may GIVE them by back feeding it into thier power lines. Yet I know down in Texas where we lived for a while they did. What if you are completely off the grid not hooked up to public power would you still have to register?

I know where I live I get very low wind so a mill wouldnt help me much but solor panels (especially in the summer lol since we have such long days) would help out. I have thought about looking into getting some my self. Only problum is our winter days are very short, we are just now starting to see daylight at 8am. About a month ago it wasnt "light" at all outside till after 9am. Plus up here you would have to keep the snow cleared off but that wouldnt be to hard haha. Especially if you heated the solor panels or the edges some how.

I read in the local paper that a homeowner did pay for his electric during the summer months...with the air condition!! He use a wind mill.

I found this, but haven't read it yet.

I do know there are sources as I've seen media stars talk about it DeCaprio and Ed Beagly jr. I also saw a house being sold that had been re-modeled to be green, the buyer would get a tax break when sold?????
I know here we are on a waiting list to have our windows all changed to energy efficient, a new roof, all duct work checked and the bottom of mobil home the water insullation barrier. This will be done at no charge we are retired and on fixed low income. If we need a new furnace we will get one at reduced rate and affordable payments. It sucks to be old and poor but in this case we welcome the help.

Ha!! I'm old and poor too and I'm told I'm an idiot too but I'm not yet retired. We just got new that we will be getting a return on our taxes and we need a new roof...BAD!! I plan on doing the work myself but while I'm up there.... so you see I'm searching.

Chances are we make $10.00 to much!!

You have no idea about the $10.00 too much. We wanted a new car, we have never missed a payment, new car would have lowered our payment. The salesman laughed when he saw our income, laughed. We went to our bank and they would do it, but the car was gone.
We also are $17.00 a month shy of being able to get this done if you saw our income you would laugh. We don't dare earn $17.00 a month more until it is done. Thank goodness we didn't get a raise in Soc Sec this year.
Hubby would give anything to get up on roof, but Oh! well he can't.

If a car salesman laughed at me I would have walked out, If you want my money you better be da*& nice to me! I wont willingly give my hard earned money to some one who is going to be rude to me.
