Do BP's ever act hungry?

Alli_Draggy

Wadjet's family
With Wadjet, I can tell when she's ready for a mouse, because she's active, out looking for one. With Pinkie, though, I can't. He just finished a shed yesterday-completely INSIDE his humid hide. And that's got to have been a contortion trick of Cirque De Soleil proportions, because when he's in that hide, it's basically solid snake.

He's been with us a week, and his temps are stable. I'd like to at least offer a rat (his prior owners say he usually doesn't eat in winter, but I'm guessing the poor guy was simply too cold to be interested, since he only had one UTH (and a fairly small one at that) for a 40 gal tank). Will he ever come out and start looking for one,or should I offer and hope he wakes up when he smells one?

My BP always tells me his meal is too small or if he is hungry by being very active. BP do go on hunger strikes for no reason sometimes.

Since its only been a week, I personally would give him another week or two before offering food. BP's need more time to chill out in their new environments.
He might or might not go on the hunt for food. With BP's who knows LOL
I mention the importance of providing the least stress as possible with a new snake and with BP's it's even more important to get them on the right path.
If he isn't coming out of his hide then you should check it to make sure he hasn't urinated or deficated in it. They WILL lay in their own waste.

Glad you decided to take her in ! I see so many adult BP's here on craigslist and I feel so bad for them. Hope there are more people like you out there for these other BP's needing homes. :)

Pinkie stuck his nose out of his hide today and actually started exploring, so we offered a rat (using the hairdryer trick to get it nice and hot.) He ate it ;). Feeling like a proud mama here!
