Dog Advice needed

Took a few pictures this morning of the dogs doing their agility jump. We really like the one of Katie with her ears flying.

I remember him, but in these pics I guess he just looks almost corgi size! And shape. I guess because he is jumping.

No, the shape thing is definitely accurate-- he is a very long dog. He weighs in at around 11 pounds, which is about 5 pounds more than the chihuahua standard allows. Turns out this is good for us, because Tara and I saw show chi's at a dog show this fall and they would be killed here with all the rough and tumble play that goes on!

LOL! The chi looks kind of crazed! The basset looks awesomely hilarious. Love it!

If the chihuahua looks crazed it's only because it's part of their breed standard. In all seriousness, though, I got him to jump for the picture by using the laser pointer. He much detests the little red dot because he never can catch it and it makes him act like a maniac. Maybe I will have to film that....

The basset has nothing on Dumbo in that one shot. In the other she merely looks... apprehensive... about the whole situation.

Haha! Breed standard . . . haha!

My giant dog Zeke loves the laser pointer. When he was younger I would try to tire him out with it. (Lord knows that the other methods I tried, like letting him pull me on my skateboard, turned out not to work so well . . .) One day I noticed long red stripes on the carpet. They were from his bleeding, carpet-burned pads from stopping at the ends of the room. He didn't notice.

We tore out all the carpet, and the first time I played with him after, he went careening into the TV stand and sliding glass door. I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants.

These days, though, now that he's going on 7 and not 3, he doesn't chase it so feverishly anymore. He still chases, but only for a short time before he decides he's too tired for that. I should have gotten video before.

We sometimes have all three dogs and one of the two cats chasing the pointer all at once. The second cat would also like to chase the laser pointer, but is too petrified of the dogs to do so. We laugh until we cry at the four of them racing around trying to catch the elusive dot. What's really fun is to put it on something, like a toy (or another dogs foot). With the toy, they will jump on it and shake it in vindication, only to quickly realize the toy is NOT the dot and the dot is now at the other end of the room... darn it!

When you put it on another dog, sometimes they will jump on it, but sometimes they won't... like they are afraid of offending the dog on whose body the dot now resides.
