Dog recommendations???

Dogs take work. If its going to be YOUR dog, you're going to have to realize the disadvantages.

Dogs cost money, money, is sometimes hard to get.
Dogs need time, time, is hard to give when you're cramming for a big test for school and working a job.
If you move away for college, you may have to leave him behind. If that's the case, it becomes your parents dog for the time-being.

There's always advantages, as well.

Dogs are fun, social animals. They are family.
If trained right, some dogs are like the perfect child.
Dogs need excercise, which means you get exercise. Win-win right there.

In the end, it's YOUR choice. But, if you want, write down all the pro's and con's of having a dog. Always think of the future and what could happen.

But I started this thread to get info about types of dogs so I dont feel like this thread is the place for people to say that if its an outside dog whats the point of having it? I would gladly answer that question just not in this thread. As for the advice please please Dont think I dont want it because I do just not in this thread. I am very sorry if I came off in the wrong way I in no way intended to and am very very sorry if I did.

If you don't want opinions, don't post in a PUBLIC forum. Simple as that.

I see abosolutely no point to keeping dogs outside. I am not going to be PC and pretend that I think it's okay to do this. I understand that some people do it-- especially those that hunt with their dogs and have a pack of hunting dogs-- but I don't personally feel that this is good for the dog. My dogs are an intricate part of my family. My parents and grandparents dogs have been the same way. Relationships with dogs can be incredibly rewarding-- but only when you and they are packmates.

And excuse me for not jumping to your tune... but six months ago you swore up and down that you wanted a ball python because your friend had a burmese... then a month later you were getting a sugar glider... than a month after that, oh your mom is making you get rid of all your snakes. Now, oops, another change of plans, all is well let's get a DOG.

Your life sounds far too tumultuous for a dog. Dogs, unlike snakes, require time from you EVERY day in order to be healthy, happy and mentally sound. They cannot be relegated to a yard to be enjoyed whenever it is convenient for you. They are living beings with personalities akin to our own, they have needs and feelings and emotions, and if you can't meet those needs now, then do yourself and the dog a favor and wait until they can be met.

Volunteer at a shelter... see what happens when dogs end up in homes that are inappropriate for them. See what horrors humanity inflicts on them on a daily basis. Wait until your lifestyle is perfect for a dog-- you have your own house that is big enough to keep your dog inside, while still allowing supervised trips outside for recreation. I have loved dogs all my life, but I didn't get my own dog until I was 26 years old-- a lot of friends had them in college, and honestly, most of those dogs were after thoughts, always playing second fiddle to the college lifestyle. Teenage years are even worse, because you're not in control of your life-- your parents are, as was clearly shown to you when your mom declared that you were moving and the snakes had to go.

Ok its not working so just forget I said anything about advice or opinions post them here. One point I have brought up on other forums is this is the internet so if someone does not agree with you then its hard to change them. So why not give all the info to the person so that the dog can have a better home. I have seen many inside and outside dogs and I must say most of the outside dogs have been a lot happier. being able to roam and have space to run.

What SHE said!!!

Also kiddo, you are not going to post on a public forum and have your answers sent to you by pm. Public forums don't work that way. We like it alllllllllllllllllllll out in the open, especially since you are a minor.

I think the happiness you are witnessing with outside dogs are dogs so desperate for human attention they are absolutely hysterical when someone looks at them.....

PETS live indoors.
Livestock and some "working animals" live outdoors.

I can second this. My uncle, two years ago, got a pitbull/bordercollie/lab mix puppy at just 5 weeks old (apalled). As the dog grew bigger and more rambunctious, my uncle didn't want her in the house. She was 'too tiring'. So this PUPPY was forced to be outside all day, alone. When I discovered this I was livid and began actively working to find a new home for her. When I puppy-sat her at a younger age, she was hyper sure but when I visited her after her 90% backyard existence began, she could NOT keep all four feet on the ground for a moment. She was so starved for any attention. She "seemed" like a happy dog, but that was emotional desperation. I was ready to punch my uncle in the face for pulling that on a dog that was a mix of such people-driven breeds.

This should NEVER be primarily outdoor. And yes, that was the day I found out she was a mostly-outdoor dog. At not even 4 months old.

Look people I understand people have different opinions but I would really rather not talk about them here if you dont want to recommend a dog then please done post. I will gladly take in everything everyone has to say bee it good or bad just do it in a pm please. As to what Irish Eye's said. I have spent lots of time with dogs caring for them feeding them walking them and cleaning after them. As for them being a pack I am not saying that I will only get one and no matter how many I get they will be cared for. If you want to know why I dont think all dogs should be inside then as I said pm me but I dont want to talk about it here.

I recommend you DO NOT GET A DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You haven't done your homework and it is another fad for you. If you did look into getting a dog you would know they are pack animals, so unless you are going to move outside also don't get one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs can be happy living indoor outdoor lives, not strictly outdoor lives. Unless the dogs are like sled dogs, which usually live strictly outside but go on 20 mile sled rides daily.

I don't think you're ready for a dog, mostly because of finances. Certainly you cannot pay for vet bills, are your parents prepared for them? Check ups? Vaccinations? Spay/neutering? The possibility of needing surgery (thousands of dollars right there).

I say foster dogs. Find some you like then foster them, and if you really like them you can keep them. But it will give you an idea of what it takes to won a dog, and the fact that dogs cannot live outdoors 24/7 with little physical interaction and be happy.

I never said I want answers in a pm. I want the answers here if they are on the topic of the thread

I'm only a few years older than you, Nitelion94, so I definitely know what it's like to be young and want pets of your own. I can't even tell you how many times I've thought about getting a new animal because I thought it would be so cool at the time, but I always take a little while to think things through and decide whether or not it would really be practical to add another animal. I think you really need to take the advice everyone here has been giving you. Think about the best interest of the dog. Trust me, I am DYING to get a puppy of my own, but I refuse to get one until I'm done with college (which will be at least 6+ more years since I'm going to vet school). I know that I won't have the time/space/money, etc... for a dog of my own until I'm finished with school. I really think you should reconsider....

Would you like being kept outdoors all the time by yourself? I think not. I work in home service and go to customers homes all day. There are 3 out of my week who have outside dogs and all are just one dog. These poor dogs actually LOOK sad in the face and get so CRAZY EXCITED to actually see someone notices them when I come by it's really sad to see. I know you said you don't want negative comments but you asked for the forums input and your getting it. Dogs like any pet should be a part of your family, AKA inside with the family. With that being said you don't need a dog right now.

Saying "dogs belong indoors," is akin to saying "Snakes belong in tanks." They can live perfectly long and happy lives outside with other dogs. It is like people feeding their dog a vegetarian diet.... why do it? Most people I see buying that stuff at the store I work at are doing it because they themselves do not believe in eating meat. Dogs have been bred to be different types with different attitudes and quirks, some of them do belong inside, but some definitely belong outside.

Lotz of breeds do well when they have some time outside, in fact most should. However, dogs should NEVER spend the majority of their time outside. You have to find a balance between letting the dog outside with.other dogs (not by themselves!), exercising the dog yourself, and letting the dog indoors to.socialize with you and family.
