What addiction?!
I've been trying to get this pair to breed. But I guess swimming is more fun. I just changed that water and he had to get in and check it out. Of course she had to join him. :crazy02:

They are Kisatchies
. The male is the darker one in the bottom.

Where'd the female come from? She has a curious look - it "has" to be from the very western portion of their range in Texas.

...and when were they warmed up from brumation? Have them been together off and on since brumation?

I got these guys from Michelle-Creatures of the Night, a few months ago. So no they weren't brumated.

They have been put together several times, mostly after the female sheds. I leave them for a couple days days at a time. Jay has the other pair I had and he "suspects" they have bred for him. Am I doing some thing wrong? Some of my corns have bred but others are still holding out on me.

Maybe yours just need to get to know each other more? Take a few more jacuzzis together and such? ;) Gorgeous snakes. I thought I read somewhere (probably here on CS) that Kisatchies tend to hook up earlier in the year than other corns.
Good luck with them!

Well, I don't think Kisatchies are going to breed as readily as cornsnakes without getting brumated first. Maybe in a couple of generations of captive breeding (weeding out the ones that are harder to bred - just like with corns), but not yet.

The advice I was going to offer wouldn't be relevant. I've never even THOUGHT about breeding Kisatchie's without brumating them. Sorry. Holler at me next season if you have trouble with them after they are brumated properly.

Well guess I am just SOL for this year then.

Information on Kisatchies doesn't seem to be as readily available as it is for other corns. Guess that's because theres just not that much info out there on them yet.:shrugs:

Well personally... if you're trying to get them to mate, a hot tub is WELL along the right track. :)

Best of luck.

Well, there is an article in Reptilia on them...and Reptiles has purchased (not printed) an article on them, too. The one in Reptilia is MUCH better since the one for Reptiles had to be "dumbed down" to fit in with their general writing style. The Reptilia one is more technical - like Vivarium USED to be when it was good!

The info on Kisatchie's is out there. I know some of us have been collecting and breeding them for well over a decade now. Lots of the original posts were made on another forum before this one existed, though, so they are lost in the black void of that site without a decent search function. :(

Anyway, now that there are some morphs being found with these guys (I mean pure ones - not the hybrid crapzoids that ruin everything), I expect the popularity to increase greatly....and the repetition of the available information to increase proportionately. heck, I sold of something like 4.9 ADULTS last year to make room for the "het" silverleafs and double hets (aner and silverleaf)...so I KNOW the potential to have a few clutches being born IS out there! Due to last year's cut back, I suspect we'll only have ~8 clutches of Kisatchies this season. Slow year.

EDITED: As long as people continue to try to breed these just like they breed cornsnakes, they will have problems with their Kisatchie corns. They aren't the same snakes. They are a little harder to reliably breed than cornsnakes - but easier than Emory. Overall, that still makes them pretty darn easy to breed in captivity!

You are not the only person out there with corns that aren't breeding in a timely manner. I've heard from other friends that are having a slow start to the year. I have a few clutches in the incubator and a lot of "wide load" females ready to pop any day now. The suspense is killing me! Be patient, if possible. I'm sure with a little Barry White and soft lighting your colony be soon be in the mood.
Good Luck,
Terri

Have you tried putting the female, with a male corn that has bred, and the male with a female, that has recently bred? It may be all you need to do, is get a little "love" (pheramones) in the air. Maybe switch homes, for a day or two? It's an idea.
