East Coast Earthquake

WEEEEELLLLL...it's been an interesting afternoon! 5.9 earthquake hit today around 2pm; epicenter in Mineral, VA, hours away from me. I came home and everything was fine. The snakes were fine. But it was a few interesting minutes there. By the time I was ready to duck under my desk, it was over.

How about you other East Coasters? Did you feel it? Are you fine? They're saying it was felt as far north as Boston, as far south as Georgia and as far west as Illinois.

Now, for possible after shocks....

There was a 5.7 around midnight in Colorado last night. I guess a few homes were damaged. I'm watching HLN they are saying the VA one was felt all the way to Canada.

my mother in law felt it as far as Belfast,New York, which is western NY..said it felt like a washing machine off balance

I felt it here. I am at my mothers, and all my snakes and geckos are at my dad's..... Very anxious!

I bet! Hope they're all fine.

I heard a couple of stories of dogs barking frantically right before the quake hit. I wish I had been with my snakes when it hit; I would have liked to see how they reacted. I wonder if they freaked out or just kept on snoozing.

I didn't even hear about the Colorado quake. I'm glad there wasn't much damage.

in maryland i thought the house was guna fall over ofcourse it was my first earthquake so i over reacted and picd the dog up and carried her outside lol(pittbulls aparently dontlike to be picked up)

I was about an hour and a half north of the epicenter. First earthquake; it was really scary! I am a student at a medical imaging clinic and we had a patient on the table. We are on the third floor so everyone ran outside. Not something I want to experience again.

I felt the one we had here in CO last night around midnight. There were like 4 total, but the third was the biggest. It was 150 miles away from me, but I live right next to Fort Carson so I am used to the ground shaking. I didn't realize it was the earthquake until I read the news this morning.

I was at work and felt it today. It was kind of a weird sensation but still interesting (granted it wasn't shaking that hard - nothing fell off the walls or anything). Some of the schools sent staff home early but mine didn't (students aren't back yet - just teachers).

I felt the quake at work in Morgantown, WV. Interesting. That was my first earthquake. Some people left their offices, it wasn't that much motion, I just kept working.

I was at work and in the exam room with a client when it hit. I thought it was a big truck passing the hospital. We're in a small town on a narrow road so any ruck has to pass really close to the building so a UPS truck would made the ground shake. I turned around expecting to see a truck loaded with logs from where they are felling trees nearby. Nothing and the shaking kept going on. Then it stopped and everyone stepped through into the exam room and said, "Was that a......quake?????!!" Apparently the kennel cage doors were rattling! Then we all started blaming the animals for not warning us!

My hubby's a schoolteacher. He's back but the kids aren't quite yet. They evacuated the school, sent everybody home and canceled school for tomorrow! SHEEZ! Like the quake is a terrorist and might strike again!

All in all, it was noticeable, exciting but not really scary. More like "Hey! We just had an earthquake! Neato!"

All the same, I hope this doesn't become a habit. The only time I think the earth is supposed to move is when I'm in bed with my hubby!:)

We had some here in Colorado, but I guess they were closer to Trinidad or something? All I know is that I didn't feel anything, which is good. The cats don't need any help knocking things off my tables.

Hope everyone else is okay though!

I felt the quake all the way up here in Ottawa, but it was just a minor shaking. I mistook it for a large truck driving by, until I remembered that large trucks don't speed around residential parking lots...

I was at work here in RI and didn't notice anything at all.
Then the phone rang and it was my inlaws (same town, just down the road apiece), and they were all excited. I am not sure what they felt, as it was the husband who talked to them, but that was how we found out it happened.
