Elemental Exotic's most anticipated pairing!

Tavia

Elemental Exotics
Just realized I never shared the pairing I am most looking forward to this year, Serenity x Atari! I really debated breeding her at all this year, as she is a bit on the young side but finally decided to, as she is more than long enough and heavy enough, although just barely inside some of the recommended minimum ages I could find for this species. So I've got my fingers crossed that I don't regret my impatience!
They locked up within minutes of their first introduction and then again the second time they were introduced but had no interest the third time. Then Atari went blue and Serenity started looking gravid and I didn't pair them again. Serenity is currently very blue and still looking gravid, so I'm hoping for some eggs in the next two weeks or so.

One unexpected benefit to come from this breeding that I hope continues, Serenity has always been a flighty, bitey witch but since her first introduction to Atari has calmed down markedly and has not attempted to eat me since then so far!

They are Thai Bamboo Ratsnakes, Oreocryptophis porphyraceus coxi. There are several different subspecies and the common names for them seem to be fairly interchangeable, so knowing the subspecies name is important. We are hoping to get a pair each of two of the other Oreocryptophis subspecies soon too.

They are gorgeous! I remember one of my first Reptiles magazines and it had an article about coxi.

Serenity is one of your Firefly-themed snakes, I'm guessing? I just started watching that show the other day.

porfee ray see ah (back when they were Elaphe) is one of those scientific names that just rolls off the tongue so smoothly.

Yep! She was the first one we named in that theme. It's a good show, too bad it ended so soon! Going to name one of the other pairs of them Jayne and Vera.

Serenity just shed and was hanging out on top of her lay box, of course she had moved by the time I'd grabbed the camera and was nearly back in the lay box for these pictures.

But she did poke her head out to see what I was doing when I got into her viv to remove her shed.

Man, I never get tired of these guys. I bet they're expensive to buy! I've never seen them for sale here. May I ask how much you paid for yours?

I have no idea about their price or availability in Canada but here they are a little rare but you can generally find a few for sale at any given time. They can vary a good bit in price as well but really aren't that expensive. I've seen them anywhere from $100 to $300 each but most are usually somewhere between those two prices.

I paid, including shipping, $300 for the male. This was fairly soon after one of the biggest breeders of them had a fire that wiped them out and the price for them jumped quite a bit and they were harder to find for awhile but seems like availability and price has pretty much gone back to where it was again this year.
Then a few months later I bought Serenity from a member of this forum that I had talked to the year before, just after she had gotten her own breeding pair and she quoted a price for me and was good enough to still give me that price after the fire when she had her first clutch hatch and the prices had jumped a good bit more than her initial quote to me. So Serenity was $205 with shipping.

Just finally remembered to get a weight on Serenity to see how much she lost with this clutch. She lost 93 grams.
