I don't have experience, but was looking into getting one. They aren't too handleable, at least from what I heard. Also, they are very unforgiving of ANY husbandry issues. This means mucho bucks spent on setting up the perfect habitat.
Emeralds are beautiful snakes... I'd like to think of them as ornaments though. Most neonates are just to pissy to approach nevermind handle, and have you ever seen the size of their teeth?! I would rather be ravished by a pack of wild dogs (oh how cliche) than be tagged by an adult ETB.
In saying that, they are often "tamed" and handled, just not as often as you would probably like. They do have extremely delicate spines as hatchlings and it's recommended you don't handle them at all until they are yearlings - which of course makes the taming process harder LOL. Oh and don't even try to approach an emerald at night... they go into spastic hunting mode and just want your hot blood!
I have met many lovely chondros and etbs though... Just during the day
Nonetheless, they look amazing, and they must be so much fun to keep. ETB's and chondros are deffinatley on my list for this year
Just make sure that if you do go for one, you buy from a reputable source. You can get ETB's fairly cheap in the US, but thats because they are parasite ridden WC animals who just do not last long. Spend silly money and get yourself a beautiful CB specimen!
IME, I've never met an Emerald I couldn't handle. Captive born and wild caughts have been both rather docile; even animals that I've been warned had never been handled. I've been tagged by more cornsnakes and boas... That said, the single ETB bite i've taken was probably worse than the other two
