Hey all, Just an intro as I'm thinking of getting my first snake this week and have my heart set on an albino corn. Have done loads of research on sites and forums so looking forward to it. Probably going to pick up a baby and one of those starter kits that alot of pet stores tie together

this one prob http://www.reptileconnection.co.uk/Starter Kits.html

anything else i may not of thought of would be handy also how long will this size viv last before I need to get a larger more permanent one??

Thank you in advance and hello again!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

My suggestion would be to price everything you need separately. A couple of things not in the kit that you will need are: A second hide (it is recommended that you have one on both the cool and warm side of the viv) and also a thermostat (to regulate the temp of your heat mat, some get too hot which is very dangerous for the sanke).

Also, it may not be a bad idea to buy a book on cornsnakes, before purchasing the snake. And make sure you will have a place to buy either live or frozen mice for your new snake.

Cheers, already got down an extra shelter and picked up on that. Got a little freezer that I hardly use so thats no problem. If I've read plenty of info on the net (like 6/7 different websites, blogs and forums) will a book really be neccessary and can you reccomend any good ones if so??

It sounds like you have given this a lot of thought. Make sure you ask any question here that might come up, no matter how silly or basic they seem.

And yes, I recommend both "Corn Snakes In Captivity" by Don Soderberg and "Corn Snakes : The Comprehensive Owner's Guide" by Kathy & Bill Love. You can find either of these on many websites including Kathy Love's http://www.cornutopia.com/

Hi and welcome to the forums! I can't wait to see pictures of the new corn you pick out! :) And Rich posted... please feel free to ask any questions that you may have! :)

Hello and welcome! :wavey:
I can't wait to see pics of the little guy!

Couldn't have said it better than that.

This place'll be like a second family.
You'll see.
and you'll love it.

Fernando is home, he's about 10 weeks, looks very healthy and is all set up. Got a couple of shelters and a water bowl, gonna pick up something for him to climb now and then.
So far he seems fairly active. When put in he went straight to the warm shelter then after a while came out and explored all round his viv. Currently he's sat in the cool shelter with his head poking out a touch. Pet man I bought him from says he was feeding a couple of pinkies a week and that it should be ok to feed tonight. How exciting. Pics to follow soon.

Wait about three days or so before you feed. Being moved to a completely new environment will stress any snake, especially a hatchling. Being fed too soon can lead to regurgitation, which will severely jeopardize your new pet's health. Give him a few days to settle in. Since he was eating well before (actually, a few pinkies a week is way more than enough), he can go a while without food, so don't think you're starving him.

Well, hello there!
