Escapee

Well then any suggestions. some how it got out of a 'apparently' snake escape proof lid. it's aquarium is set ontop of a dresser which is like 4 feet of the ground (it's only like 1 1/2) i looked EVERYWHERE in my room. no where to be seen. the last time it got out (old lid) it was in the window but nope. not there. i don't know what to do
what do you guys do when your snake escapes? and what y ou guys think the odds of me finding it are?

Hard to say the odds. However, there are a couple things you could do to try to find it...
1. Set up a bottle trap by placing a pink inside a plastic soda bottle or something with the neck inverted. (Kinda like a lobster trap.) The snake will go inside and not figure out how to get back out.
2. Take some flour or similar substance and spead it out in a line. If the snake goes through it, it will leave a trail telling which direction it was headed.
3. Go around at night with a flashlight and you might find it around somewhere. They like dark corners, so you're more likely to find it along the wall than in the middle of the room.

Hope this helps. Good luck finding it!

We found our guy (as a hatchling) in the closet under a sleeping bag...This was a closet that was closed, but in the same room he was kept in.

Are you in a house/apartment?
Did you check up? Like in the tops of the curtains, lights, cupboards etc?
Our sons snake (3 years old) is able to fit between his mattress and box spring as well.

Good Luck! Let us know where you find him...

When my little girl escaped she went down my heat vent and came out of my parents, it was a good catch! The bate method works the best, place a pinky in the middle of the floor (around a towel so the snake does not feel too out in the open) and wait for it.

Good luck finding your baby

There shouldn't be a next time. I'll bet that more escaped corn snakes die than are recovered. You've gotten lucky twice. Enclosure security is a top concern in keeping your snake alive and healthy.

I wish I could be so lucky. Had my first escapee take off last night. And it was my own stupid fault. I was showing a friend my newest acquisitions and she fell out of my hands and darted underneath the bed---it would be tough to find a 3 foot snake underneath my bed let alone a 10 inch hatchling. :(

Well this couldn't have worked out any better. I found him!!!!!!!!

You wouldn't believe what just happened. I woke up about 45 minutes ago and spent the better part of a half hour looking for him again. Last night when I cleaned out underneath my bed searching for him, I ripped everything out and found a couple of pairs of nasty, beat up old sneakers and work boots. When I went to bed I left everything out.

So after I looked around again this morning I spent some time putting everything back underneath the bed. I decided to chuck the two pairs of old shoes outside after having checked inside them first. So after I tossed them out the door I went back inside, cleaned up a bit more and posted my previous message. Then I went outside for a smoke. I take my first drag, look down on the patio and what do I see? A scared little snake looking up at me ready to strike. :)

At first I thought it was divine intervention or something because I couldn't for the life of me figure out how he could have gotten outside and how he was right there in front of me. He's lucky I didn't step on him because I tend to pace when I'm stressed and I was walking right where he was. Anyway, I'm guessing I didn't check the shoes well enough and he was stowed away in one of them and must have fallen out when I threw them outside.

Thank God for old, smelly shoes and smoking has finally paid off!!!!

I never, ever would have found him in my room. Way too many nooks and crannies.

I still can't believe I found him. :D
