executive order 3/16/2012

Just so no one can twist my words

Social issues are very important and should be addressed, but I personally feel there needs to be more emphasis placed on the economy during this election, than social issues.

It was requested and it was done...

No one is saying that the economy isn't a very important issue. But not ALL of the focus can be put on that. Sure, someone can have an absolutely fantastic economic plan and platform, but if we ONLY focus on that, the rest of their ideas might include the return of slavery, a tyrannical dictatorship, completely removing all security from the borders, and making the main import for the US cocaine. If we ONLY choose a candidate based on their economic plan, you might wind up with someone worse than Bush (or Obama, in your opinion) when it comes to other issues that matter.

I'm sure that the candidates have not forgotten what a mess our economy is right now, and I'm sure that they're developing plans as to what they intend to do; please remember that a candidate may go in with the best of intentions, however, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." (John Steinbeck)

Oh I completely agree Robbie!

Just wanted to point out something about how this thread has developed....

It's a really good example of how people can be distracted. The OP was about the removal of general rights and the imposition of State control of basic requirements for survival.

One moral issue has now taken over and everyone is discussing that instead (a valid discussion, but nonetheless....).

Ditto that! I jumped about 10 pages to get past all the abortion talk, and it's still going on. I was interested in learning more about the first post, but I guess some people have a dead horse that needs a more thorough beating. Oddly enough, the repeated posts on that subject still haven't changed my stance on abortion at all. It's almost as if they serve no purpose other than to let one user vent on another... :twohammer

This is how significant debates can be diverted away from the core issues and legislation passed without comment. Just get people fired up enough about a side-issue and away you go.

If we can do it to ourselves, imagine how well we can be manipulated by a State machine out to engineer the situation.

Keep an eye on those politicians and beware of being manipulated by the strategic deployment of moral outrage. Be careful out there.

Yes, I have to agree to this!!! What happen???
Oh...never mind.

No one's focused enough on social justice or social freedom in office, so that's why there's continuous discussion. Many people are still oppressed by sexism, racism, class-ism, disability prejudices, etc... so if someone happens to look 10 pages further only to see the same perspective on a human's right to freedom, it's because the horse (symbolic of oppression) is by no means dead.

And saying that out Gov't has "bigger issues" to focus on... than what? Freedom?!?! The nicest thing about this initiative "freedom and equality", is that it's the only idea that actually is free (of cost) to expand on, so I really see no draw-back to the promotion of it.

And if anyone is familiar with the tragic Trayvon Martin murder case in Florida, in which a child murderer is still walking free after stalking and shooting a 17yr old boy... you might notice that there are parts in this country where children are still being profiled and executed for the color of their skin. This country is supposed to be UN-equivocally about promoting freedom, and these are injustices that need to be addressed, and there is no bigger issues to talk about until they are addressed. I would post another 10 pages in defense of human rights if it made even the slightest of difference, because no-one of political importance seems to rate these most important issues very highly on their list of priorities, because most of society doesn't rate these issues very high on a list of priorities.

I've heard about Trayvon, and I won't get into it, as I'm sure I'll get slammed.

As far as human rights go, if you think our country is so bad, please move to North Korea. We live in the greatest country in the world. We do have our flaws and we do make mistakes. Our nation is in crisis. We're crumbling economically, we're 15 trillion in debt, and our President is essentially destroying our country. Human rights are an issue, and they need to be addressed, but saving our nation needs to be one of our top priorities, or else we won't have a nation at all.

If you want to get into Child Murderers and how they get off? Look into child abuse cases or other child murderers who are walking free after killing and skin color has nothing to do with it. The tragic loss of Trayvon is not the first of its kind nor is it going to be the last. Why because our Justice system is flawed and is in need of fixing! Our nation has been in a crisis on many issues and nothing is being done about it. It doesn't matter who is President.

Where are you guys doing anything about it but talking on an internet forum? What are you guys doing about what makes you mad about America? Voting? That is a start. However, arguing one side is better than the other or one cause is more important then the other? Really it does nothing more than make others feel you both are perfect examples in why some of us want nothing to to do with either party.

You're right Steph. This arguing is not convincing anyone. I vote. I am very politically active on local, state, and national levels. I guess I debate to get others to understand my view so that maybe they'll understand my point a little better and change their own views.

Or how about our VETERANS? They are returning home from war and we are losing 18 per day. PER DAY due to suicides. Where is the outcry in that? Those politicians in Washington are sending these young people to war but doing nothing for them when they get home. Can you get that through your head? 18 per day! It is sickening to sit here and listening to you guys complain and bicker back and forth just for the sake of proving which side of the middle is right and better and more just.

To be perfectly blunt and honest, what is WRONG in America... is people who regurgitate the values and ideals of parties who are both CORUPT!

You won that sucker bet!!!

It's a damn shame we're loosing that many Steph. Awareness for PTSD needs to addressed, and we need to get our troops the help they need.
