There are many veterans group you can donate money too. Most respected is the Wound Warrior fund. What needs to happen though is more people, more Americans, need to stand UNITED to help our warfighters, to help our children fight against the monsters that prey upon them, to help protect our liberties... the list can go on. But UNITED is the key word!
 
I've heard of that fund. I believe my school takes up a donation for it! You are right Steph, we need to stand united. One of our issues is the left is too liberal ( one could almost argue they're arguing for a totally different system), and the right is too conservative. I will be the first to admit, I'm all the way to the right, and don't agree with most anything the left says, but there does need to be some compromise so we can get stuff done.

No you might not have. She is my step Aunt who is very active with veteran affairs and widows. She is a widow. With everything she went through why she married my Uncle is beyond me. He is never leaving active duty.
 
Awe. I am sure we probably know a lot of the same people.

I belong to and help run a warfighters caregiver support group page on facebook. These women take care of their husbands who are anywhere from 30% to 100% ratings from the VA. They suffer from injuries from gunshot wounds, IEDs, traumatic brain injuries, missing limbs to PTSD. They are a strong group of women with very hard lives. But their main goal is to make their Veterans lives easier when returning home.

I have met many veterans and advocates as well through organizations and groups. I have volunteered at our local VA when I was in high school and have been thinking about doing it again 3 days a week. We volunteer to meet troops that are returning home at the airports. I would love to volunteer for the USO. We send care package items to local groups that send them off to unknown soldiers who are deployed. We always fill out extra boxes of Christmas cards to send to wounded soldiers that are both stateside and overseas (mostly in Germany)

Some men will never leave active duty no matter what. My uncle is on his 24th year of service in the Army. I think he would stay longer if his wife would let him. LOL some are just career soldiers. They are starting units for wounded soldiers so that they can be retrained and be able to stay in. I am lucky Mark got out of active duty. He said he wasn't going to put me through that life anymore than he had to. So he joined the reserves and here we are.

Are you sure you really want to advocate this position? Because I'm sure there's lots of people who can come up with another tragedy more horrific than the suicide rates among veterans in order to advocate turning a blind eye to the suicide rates among veterans.

Of course, what are you doing on an internet forum while this is going on? If the rest of us are so terrible for debating a rights issue that directly affects 52% of the population and is a major difference between each party, then are you terrible for reading it? Or for participating in this forum at all?

Honestly, I find it fascinating that many people here are flipping out over losing rights, and yet advocate silence on some of the most important rights issues American has faced in decades. This is more than about abortion. There is a sustained campaign in the US to marginalize women.

If you want to raise awareness about the veteran suicide rate, than I suggest you start a new thread about it. If you want to complain that people are posting to an internet forum instead of volunteering for difference organizations that help veterans, well, then what are you doing here at all, then?
 
Never did I say to stay silent about one in the pursuit for the other. I was pointing out that fact that instead of arguing about party politics, how about uniting for the greater cause of America

Are you kidding Nova? The first person the derail the thread lecturing someone else about starting a new thread. I, as the thread OP, didn't ask you to start your own thread maybe you can show Stephenie the same courtesy.

Well, okay. That'd be great. Only, what does the greater cause of America entail? Everyone seems to have a different idea.

And the thread wasn't about veterans either. I researched the EO that tsst linked in the OP, we talked about it in this very thread. From what I've found, the EO is not what the conservative blogs are making it out to be, but I could be wrong.

I'm happy to participate in a women's rights thread, but this is where it was being talked about. If a mod wants us to move, then someone could start a new OP, however, I haven't seen any mods ask us to move the topic elsewhere so I've been happy to stay.

Also, a new thread specifically about veterans is liable to be better in terms of raising awareness than a few posts in the middle of another thread. I suggested that because she'd get better traction, not because I have a problem with thread hijacking (It should be fairly obvious that I don't).

These people put their lives on the line so that we can be free. I'm sorry but you're completely out of line. Our troops are the bravest and best citizens in this country, don't you dare insult our military by downplaying this issue. I don't advocate silence, I am saying there are much larger issues facing our country than abortion. So disrespectful.....

Hmm. I guess so, although I wasn't specifically talking about abortion, but about all the anti-women shenanigans they'd been up to. You're right in that referencing it got the ball rolling. I didn't really mean it go like it did, though, it'd just been on my mind alot.

Carinata, for someone who made several posts whining about other people putting words in your mouth, you made a massive strawman out of my post. I'd like you to quote a single thing I said that is disrespectful to service people. If you can't, perhaps you should read the post again since you completely misunderstood (willingly or no) what I was saying.
