Exercise support group?

I hope you guys don't mind a newbie joining in?

I started working out again a little over a month ago. I'm the maid of honor in a Hawaii wedding scheduled for September. Needless to say, I have some work to do.

The last time I was serious about working out I did P90X and it worked great, however I kinda got bored of the DVDs so I am trying running this time around. I have never been a runner, so it's been fun/scary trying this out.

I am currently on week 4 day 3 of the couch to 5k program (free, look it up!) and am surprised at how well I am doing. I did have to repeat a couple days of week 3, but that's all right. I am using their iPhone app along with runkeeper and it's worked out really well!

I honestly haven't lost any weight, but I haven't really changed over my eating habits yet, though I am gettin there slowly. :)

I run 3 days a week and after I finish this program I plan on moving on to the c2 10k program. My goal is to run a 5k by the end of the year.

Well until that SG Fitness 2.0 gets going, I guess I'll post in here, too. :shrugs:

I'm going to weigh and measure myself first thing tomorrow morning (since I've already eaten breakfast) and check my body fat % with my caliper. If I can maintain a body fat of 19-20% I'd be happy.

Has anyone else used Michael Thurmond's 6-week Body Makeover? I had great success with that both the first and second time I did it. I'm planning on doing it again...and sticking with it would of course, be my goal.

I'm also thinking about joining some kind of easy on the body exercise classes. GROUPON seems to always have some really great deals (in my area, anyway). Today they have a Groupon of 5 Yoga Classes for $25.00, regular cost is $60.00.

I need to start walking again. I also want to (at the very least) get on my "Gazelle" for 10 minutes 3-5 times a week. I can use some peer-accountability for that.

So Karen...ARE you going to be walking today??? :D

Of course not! The more the merrier. :)

Okay, OM, that's what we'll expect you to post on. Let us know how it's going.

Yes, I am planning to walk today and tomorrow for 20-30 minutes. I'll post when I get back.

I'm in! I had gastric bypass surgery in 2006. I weighed 286 at the time of my surgery and lost 130 lbs. I'm sad to say that over the last year I have gained weight, about 40 lbs, due to depression, antidepression meds that I no longer take, and emotional eating. I was in Iraq from 2007 -2008 and after working 12 hours a day I would go to the gym and work out for at least an hour. I did that 5 to 6 days a week. When I came home I was dealing with some serious medical problems and after getting over those I was laid off...lack of money and not being able to find a job lead to my depression.

I'm seriously unhappy about the weight gain so I'm determined to loose it again. I have started back on my low carb diet and have been following it pretty strictly since Jan. 2nd. I just joined a gym with my cousin and we're going to be work out partners so we can kick each other in the butt when we need it! I have an eliptical here at the house but it's so easy to ignore it when you are on your own. My goal is to finally reach my goal weight and that gives me 60 lbs to loose. My next work out will be Saturday.

That's great! I really enjoy walking in the park a lot better then I like using the eliptical but our weather has been really bad so walking outside hasn't been possible. I can't wait for spring!

I'm in too! I wanto sheD like 100lbs or so. Gained most of it when I was pregnant 12 years ago but health issues, medications make it difficult to do. Going to ride my exercise bike for 10 minutes 2 times this week. Saturday and Wednesday

I joined a gym today! I also worked out for an hour with my cousin. We did 5 miles on the bikes and lifted weights on some of the different machines. I'm sure my legs will kill me in the morning and I feel like I need a nap but it was fun having someone to work out with. :)

That's terrific, Josie! Good job. I'm sorry to say I didn't walk like I was supposed to yesterday. :(

I need to figure out a way to lose my tummy without doing ab exercises. I have been told by my surgeon that I'm not allowed to do those or lift more then 25 lbs.

I think the cardio exercises you are doing will help with that. Ab work will make your abs stronger but I don't think it will make you lose fat there.

Did anybody else meet their exercise goals this past week?

I would love to find a step aerobic class like I was taking in Iraq. I love love loved it but haven't found one since I came home. The class was ran by a tiny woman who was a drill sgt. She was a beast! LOL

Make sure you are eating some source of protein with the salads. You want to make your calorie intake count so high protein, low carb is a good way to go.

No Mam', I did not. I did eat lots of salads, though. I could give you my excuses, but...

I got lots of exercise yesterday because I was outside all day long, walking around and whatnot. But it was because I went to an outdoor event thing :p Still counts, right? It was exercise!!!

Tara and I wanted to exercise and be healthier this year. We've joined a gym and have made it at least twice a week for MOST weeks so far this year. We were sick one week and last week my hamstring was bothering me, so we took longer mild walks with the dogs instead. I've been enjoying it so far.

I'd like to get back to a lower weight-- right now I am high-normal. If I could put less stress on my bad knees, I think that'd be good.
