Well, i have a keep interest in Reptiles and Damien as my one man collection is now settled and doing Great : ) i dont handle him as much because i dont want to spoil him too much, i think holding him every day or every couple of days is better then 3 times a day : ) anyways I NEED YOUR HELP!!

To be honest, from that list I'd get a giant African snail. I'm sure they're easy to care for. I like snails. :shrugs:
 
hehe, well i wasent planning on the Snail lol, i have my eye on the king, the charcole corn and the scorpions, any idea witch one of them would be nicest and would Damien live with another snake or would i have to go to the old 2ft one?

Sorry, but haven't you read ANY of the cohabitation threads around here? As a general rule: one snake per enclosure unless breeding, period.
 
Any other snake you get will HAVE to have its own enclosure, no ifs or buts.

Personally I reccomend the goldfish. Fishies can be fun.
 
Personally George I'd go with a snail or fish. You don't have the enclosure for another snake and it wouldn't be proper to put Damien thru the stress of putting another snake in with him. You know as well as the rest of us, it just wouldn't be fair to Damien to all of a sudden have to share his home with another snake. Thats just my opinion though. Good luck with whatever pet you decide to get though!

(George _does_ have Damien's old enclosure, which would be adequate for a small snake)

But I'd go for either the millipedes (had those- they're fun) or the Tiger Salamanders (had those every spring as a kid- they are really cool!!) or the snail (I've had the US version and really liked them) (but if they breed like US land snails- watch out, soon you'll have hundreds!)

Funny how they have Cuban Anoles for sale. In Florida they are reviled as an invasive species. (But not by me!)

The last house I lived in had SO many around the front porch you had to wait for them to scatter before stepping out, lol. I NEVER had bugs anywhere around my house though.
 
Thanks guys, ill probably end up going to the shop, randomly picking somthing like i did with Damien coming out with a care sheet and doing more research when i get home, witch alot of people dont recremend but i do want something i just cant choose what, i'm steering away from the idea of another corn, because in the future i will have to buy another big tank, atm i have a 2ft one and 3ft, Damiens in the 3ft and the 2ft is nice and emty, i was thinking a nice scorpion, because there pretty cheap and there pretty cool and interesting, i'm sure you will all understand i'm getting older now so some of my bithday cash will have to be put aside, thats why i'm steering away from that loverly spider :p Also i asked mum and she was like " NO SPIDERS IN THIS HOUSE MATE" i'm not going to argue about it eather lol, anything with over 4 legs is scary :p thats why the thought of the millypeeds kills me :p
 
Oh man, I didn't even think about the anoles. They truly are kewl critters. Besides, just think if you do end up with more snakes in the future and one happens to be a picky eater. You have ready made "scent" animals on hand.

Goldfish are an ideal first children’s pet, they are easy to care for & cheap to set up.

That is NOT true it sounds as if this person is perpetuating the myth of goldfish in a bowl. If you want two goldfish you should have at least 30 gallon tank, with a filter meant for $60. Not to mention the 30lbs of gravel, the decorations, getting the tank cycled etc.

Sure thats for aquarium enthusiasts who want to give their fish ideal environments. I have successfully raised golfish in glass bowls and had them live in excess of 3 years. My mother had done the same, and I'm sure her mother did too.

I would not keep fish without filters anymore as changing the water so often is a pain in the bum, but it can be done.

Its the same senario as people housing corn snakes in little plastic tubs, where as others would say this is completely wrong and imply that keeping corns in a 4ft tank with as many unnecessary branches and decorations as possible is the ideal lifestyle. Again it's down to personal preferance.
 
Have any interests in Geckos, George? I saw she had baby Leo's on there, as well as a couple adults. They make fun, interesting little pets. They're easy to care for, live a good long time, and become quite time and handable as adults.

Your old two foot tank would be a nice fit for a Leopard Gecko. The only initial startup cost for them is calcium, food, and an UTH and maybe a couple/three hides.

Only word of caution I could give you on them, is...don't put the Leo tank near Damiens. Whenever Tootse (my Corn) gets near Skittles' and Ike's tanks (my Leos) she always gets really hyper-active and constantly tries to head to their tanks.

Just something about that Lizard smell, I guess... :rolleyes: :grin01:
 
Too bad you don't like millipedes - they are great! We used to have 2 big black ones for quite a while. We named them Heebie and Jeebie, and that is what most people thought when they saw them, lol ("They give me the Heebie Jeebies" for those who don't know that old expression).

They are super easy and cheap to keep, don't bite, and feel really cool with all those little legs walking on your arm.

But some scorpions are also cheap and easy to keep as well, and look great under blacklights.

Sorry to be rude, but goldfish have a lifespan of 20+ years. Three years is nothing to be proud of. That's like being proud that you kept your snake alive for 3 years and now its time to go out and get a new one!
 
Thanks guys = ) Yea, i spoke to her today, and she said the king and corn are £70, witch is understandable because were in the countryside and the nearest reptile store other then her is about 300-400miles, so i think i'm going for the scorpions, alot of people have suggested a rabbit - used to breed rabits and i dont like them, when i went on holiday i ate one, so that would be a NO-Go and i have goldfish, there just not that interesting, ummmm, ive had birds before, they constant churping and scattering there seeds on the carpit would upset my mum, spiders would also upset her, the millypeeds would make me feel dizzy, and well, looks like i'm left with the leo or the scorpions, witch her price list is pretty okay for them, baby leos are £28 and adults are £35 also scorpions are £18 she says she has a big tame one in now, so i guess if i do go for one of them, it will be that one : )

P.s.. About the goldfish thing.. ummm... lol, a big set up is not really needed, mandy has had animals all her life, she works with animal charitys and she makes sure she tells you all the animals details before she sells it too you, she would not send a goldfish to somone who she felt would put it in a cup or something.

Anyways, goldfish live happy in a ball, as long as the waters changed often... and all mine have only lived about 2-3 years.. ive never herd of a 20 year old one lol

"He always knew when it was feeding time and I used to talk to him."

As word of Tish's longevity spread, he "became something of a celebrity", she said.

"People always used to ask how Tish was doing. I don't think we will be getting another one.

"We couldn't replace Tish, he was part of the family."

Mrs Hand's son, Peter, won Tish, along with another goldfish, Tosh, playing roll-a-penny at a funfair in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, in 1956.

His parents took on the fish after Peter married and left home. Tosh died in 1975.

In 1998 the fish took the longevity title from Fred, a Worthing goldfish who died in 1980 aged 41.

Although his age could not be verified by biological tests, the Guinness Book of Records investigators were persuaded there was nothing fishy about the claims and recognised his status.

In later life, Tish faded from bright orange to a distinguished silver, but remained healthy until shortly before his death.

Mr Hand said the secret of his long life was not being overfed, and being put in the sun occasionally.

The 11.5cm fish had a habit in his earlier days of trying to jump out of his bowl, and was kept safe by a net placed over the top.
