Who's going??? I'm planning on it! Probably Saturday, but I could go Sunday instead, if that's what everyone wants.

PLANNING ON SATURDAY!!

The FIRExpo Grows Huge!

Next Week's FIRExpo is Set to be the Largest Repticon Show ever Produced in Florida!

Running over a decade, the fabulous Florida International Reptile Expo, better known as the FIRExpo presented by Repticon is growing into an unbelievable jam-packed reptile event. The show will be held next weekend at The Lakeland Center at 701 West Lime Street in Lakeland, FL, on Saturday & Sunday, September 14 & 15, 2013. This new venue for FIRE lies 45 minutes from the downtowns of both Tampa and Orlando, providing easy access in a facility which has allowed the show to grow in size to the biggest Repticon has ever done in Florida. This event will contain more vendor tables than prior FIRExpos and than either the Repticon Tampa or Orlando shows. As Repticon's flagship Florida show for the entire year, do not miss this singular exotic animal event!

FIRE will offer a unique opportunity of more selection of the snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, spiders, and other exotics that you love. Shop the ultimate variety of animals at the best prices from numerous regional and national vendors who are able to answer all your questions. Browse the vast merchandise, including cages, equipment, and feeders, that your animals require. Make an entire weekend of the event as it will take that much time to tour the entire show and attend all of the world-class seminars offering ample live animal encounters and educational information that your family can enjoy and use in pursuit of the hobby.

This year the vet for the FIRExpo will be Dr. Orlando Diaz-Figueroa DVM, MS, Dipl. ABVP (Avian Specialty). Dr. Diaz employs these many specialties at the Lake Howell Animal Clinic and also runs the family reptile business Legacy Reptiles. Dr. Diaz will be inspecting the animals at the show on Saturday morning to ensure top quality animals for FIRE, as well as lending his general expertise.

The LB Reptile Experience will headline the speaker events, pulling out all stops as they bring large live and friendly reptiles for you and your family to encounter in several presentations throughout the weekend. Sandboa Morphs will prove to you why the fabulous sandboa species make the perfect pets, while their close associates, those amazing Spiderboyz, will delight children of all ages with their tarantula presentation that proves these animals can be safe for kids. Do not miss the prehistoric madness of Mary Bailey's Country Gator Theater, and delight in the leopard geckos of Top Hat Geckos. Then Daniel Parker of Sunshine Serpents will make you a specialist in Snakes of the Southeast, and later will engage audiences with tales of Field Herping Adventures. Redfoot Ranch will give turtle and tortoise lovers what they clamor for in an educational live animal encounter filled with chelonians. More content will be brimming at the seams at FIRE, so check the show page and at the event for the latest schedule.

At FIRE meet representatives from long time animal educators Croc Encounters who are proud to announce the launching of their brand new website with a photo gallery, information about outreach programs, ways to contribute, volunteer opportunities, and an up-to-date blog with Croc Encounters news and events. Remember that Croc Encounters is open on Saturdays for self-guided tours, 11am to 4pm, and offer Sneak Peek Saturdays with special up-close and personal looks at areas of the park for only $5 ($4 with a printed coupon from the website). The FIRExpo comes only once a year, but every weekend you can visit Croc Encounters!

Be sure to check out the FIRExpo Facebook Page.

(I've got some nice Okeetees! And various bloods, plasmas and blood stripes) (ooh, and the pinstripe Miamis, who had their second meal today, and eat like little piggies!!)

This is them. Half Abbotts, half SMR. I would venture to guess they will not be anything like Buckskins at maturity. They will be orange and red.

I _think_ Tara Smith might have hatched buckskins recently. I'll be doing an Extreme Okeetee Tessera project next season, using an Extreme Okeetee female from Strange Cargo, (Dad is the Halloween Okeetee, Mom is a buckskin). These are bred for very thick black borders, and lots of black saddles, and very contrast-y background- light orange. I'll be breeding her (Starling) to Gartersnake. OR- I may wait a year and breed her to Koolio, son of Gartersnake. Then, coming up, I have Raven, same genetics as Starling, only he's even MORE gorgeous, to breed to daughter of Gartersnake, Garnet. And I'm likely going to have a buckskin female on loan from Tara next season, to breed to Gartersnake. And of course the Okeetee babies from Gartersnake x Madras turned out so nice we'll be repeating that in 2014.

In fairness, I should mention that Lee Abbott will most likely be vending at FIRE. He'll have the red/orange Okeetees, with perfect (non-aberrant) patterns.

Gorgeous babies and mom n dad, I'd hate to ask you to hold onto them til the expo. But I'd love to adopt baby "E", I also really would like a buckskin though. If I can't find one (reasonably priced) I would happily buy him from you. Hope I'm not asking to much.

I also have to tell you, E is a hateling!! But he's calmed down a lot :) (Of all the rest, he's the only hateling). (Well, except A and Koolio are a little snippy).

Aww, I've heard okeetees can be a bit gruff compared to other corn breeds. Maybe I'll just leave it up to you to decide who'd be a good fit.

Right now plans are to meet up Saturday morning at 10. Hope to see some new people there!!
