I need my fellow Californians to help me out here =). Anyone know of anywhere in CA to get frozen thawed anything without having to pay the ever so expensive shipping charges? Please let me know if you have any info.

Is there a Petco in your area??

I know here in Oregon they sell frozen rodents of all sizes for anywhere from $1.19 to $1.49 (mice.. didn't check rat prices)

Petco's may not have the best advice around, but if you already know what you want don't ask anything except "do you have xxx I need xx of them."

Since you already know this is whats right for your pet don't let them talk you out of it if they don't agree,

If you are located in So. Cal you can contact the Mouse Emporium & More. They are based out of Riverside but will make sometimes make arrangements to meet you somewhere for pick-up and their prices are much more reasonable then PetCo and PetsMart (who just started selling F/Ts)

Here is their website:

yeah no kidding. Petco is rediculous. If I were to buy 50 at $1.19 - $1.49 a piece,

1.19 a piece would equal $59.50

1.49 a piece would equal $74.50

at .15 a piece, it would be $7.50

Hmm, ridiculous, probably... However all the pets stores I have checked in my area have similar prices, and add shipping to the price from an Internet supplier and its MORE expensive to buy in the small quantities I need. Which is of course why I started breeding my own
All told I think I have $20 invested, not counting the second tank I had to buy for the kid's "pet" mice I had to give up :shrugs: I have obtained at least that value in feeders from them already, and mine give small litters! I do have to go out and get the supplies for another batch of food, but that runs in the area of $5-$7 and lasts about 2 months or more so no biggie.. (3 females x 2 months worth of breeding. Roughly 2 litters a piece or easily 30+ feeders..)

While shipping can be outrageous try to find a supplier that is willing to ship 2nd day ground. If they are in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana or a state west of that they can reach most of the west coast with 2 day ground. This puts shipping costs at around $15 (depending on box charge).

Thank you for the info Ratsicles. Yeah I just got the pricing from the mouse Emporium, and they are kind of up there. Not as high as petco would charge or anything, but not as cheap as other sites.

You might try looking into the Mouse Factory. They would have to be shipped, but their prices are really good. Also, their shipping is really reasonable. They calculate it based on how far the package is going and the weight. I was going to get some through RodentPro and the shipping was $65 for just a little load. I ended up getting a really big order from the Mouse Factory and it only cost $35 to ship. If you get less than 100 then prices range from 0.25 per pink to 0.70 per jumbo mouse. If you get more than 100 then prices drop considerably. Plus they vaccuum seal them in packs of 50 so if you order 500 for one snake the unopened ones won't get all freezerburned and yucky. Is there anyone in your area that you can combine orders with? That is a good way to go if it's an option, quantity discount and split shipping. :) Try putting up some ads to see if there are any other herpers interested.

Good luck!

yeah there are a few around me, but they are all about an hour or two or three away. the only thing is that unless I get dry ice in the package, they will defrost on the way home lol. I have the mouse emporium near me, but they are kinda flaky with contact. They responded to my email, but they take forever. I mainly need some Medium Rats for my big boy and some pinks for my soon to be striped Amel :)
