The Devils Advocate
This is how we are now keeping all babies...
This is the frame we made to keep things simple and easy.
The snakes love them and are really happy..

They are easy to take out (no unwrapping the snake off twigs)
And the snakes feel secure (We have them covered with silk plants when not being photographed)
These are happy little snakes.....

That is so cool! How did you make those? I like those better than my PVC pipe perches.
Thank you for posting this! :)

I'll add to this when the whiskey wears off.... LOL
BTW.. GTP like the pvc .... this is for Carpets...
let me sober a bit and I;ll elaborate.... LOL

I've seen my local ATB breeder here use the same concept for his babies too. Such an amazing idea! Easy to clean and move around.

A few of my carpets like the pvc setups, but I'd love to make some of those for my kids. I've even got a pic of one of my carpets posed on the pvc pipe similar to the GTP's...LOL

Hey Mike, can I bug ya to tell us how you made them? ;)
Quite straight forward really...
First I get fence mesh....

That stuff is easy to find, but I guess you could use anything similar..
Then I cut it into strips that are the right size for the rubs I am using..
Smooth off all the burrs from cutting it..
I use a disc cutter as this stuff is quite tough..

Then I bend it to fit in the rub so it forms an arch... The water bowl will sit nicely under it and the snake can choose where it wants to sit..

Then just paint with an enamel paint.....

Thanks!

I'd love to do something like that for the gargoyle geckos I'm planning to get, and if I decide I want a panther cham with his own part of my room, that would be wonderful for him. :D

Might also be good for just picturing corns.

I kinda figured it was something like that...looks great! Thanks Mike! :)

Neato! :) My JCP has two branches in his tub, and it can be a challenge to get him off them... he literally spends 95% of his time perched, and I bet he'd love these wire things. I'm not the handiest person, though, so maybe I'll get a friend to make one for me.

Gosh Mike...what colors that little beauty has! I love the carpets. I'm not adding to my collection at the moment (got my eyes on some classic corns /w awsome hets, gotta save money and space....) but for the breif moments before reality kicks in, I'm always tempted...:p
Smart thinking for the perches too. I've got fake bamboo in the corner of one of the corn's tanks, because he likes to climb. I'm going to this idea though, I've got LOTS of a simliar material, and I think it will make better use of the tank space...thanks for sharing! ;)

Oh cool! Heather showed me this thread, but I kind of forgot about it. I would be interested in your explanation of why the GTP's like the pvc and the carpets like these, though. My two carpets seem to be quite happy with the crisscross of dowels I ran across their cages-- they're in plastic bins right now while growing up, so it was easy. But this is really cool too! (Probably already a bit small for Zillah, though.)

It's not so much Carpets like these..
I believe that GTP need the thicker perches when adult... Something to do with it's healthier for them.... But I could be wrong on that as well...

Well, the GTP's certainly wrap in a different way from most carpets, and it would probably be difficult for them to do that on this kind of perch!

Do you use the same technique for perches for your adult carpets? When I get to build my babies their big cages, I am currently planning to use branches in them. Does this have benefits I haven't considered, apart from the obvious convenience of moving them when you need to>
