feeding/behavior

just got my first corn snake, used to snake sit for the neighbors and wanted my own....anywho thats aside the point.

i fed my corn 4 days ago following the instructions of the reptile shop where i baught him, that was to feed him two hopper mice roughly every week, and to give a third if he was still active afterwards. well i fed him two and left it at that. now i have come across some "leftovers" shall we say, and the amount seems to only be consistant with one of the hoppers, and when i went to pick him up he wasn't as keen as he was prior to feeding.

which bring me to my questions

1) is this sort of behaviour because he is still digesting one of the mice

2) when feeding multiple mice should i always be waiting for multiple poops

thanks for any help/advice

How big around is your snake? How old? What are the tank conditions? Are you sure it was a poop, and not a regurge?

If he can take two hoppers at once, I'd recommend you move him on up to small adults.

Usually it's one mouse meal = one poop. two mice would still be one meal.
If you wait for longer you usually get a second smaller poop after a while.
As for feeding, I agree that if he's on two hoppers or sometimes three it's probably time to move up to small adult mice.

If you are sure that it is a poop, and not a regurge, then I would say 4 days later would be a fairly long time. I suggest keeping 1-2 hoppers, or a small mouse. Remember don't feed anything larger then 1 1/2 times the girth of the largest part of your snake.
.
For your first question, think about it in our terms. After you eat a fairly large sized meal, how you feel if at your 3 a.m you were awoken by a large hand taking you out from your covers. You wouldn't be to keen either! If he is still digesting after 4 days, then move down to a smaller meal, maybe one hopper.
.
I'm big on feeding multiple mice, rather then one large item. I have noticed it can go both ways. Alot of my snakes on small meals will have one large poop. My adults on multiple small meals will have one large poop. Sometimes, they will have two, but its not as often.

Have a great day,

From my experience my '05 yearling (who is eating full sized mice once every 7 days) goes dos twice a week, like clock work. Once about day 2 afterwards, and then about day 5 or 6. I handle her a lot after I let her digest for 48 hours, but I always make sure I see that first doogie or I know that first one will be on my bed or shirt.

Hatchlings from my experience only go about once a week...my little guy is currently eating pinks and with the same excerise as the yearling only goes once.

You probably know this, but you don't want to handle them within 48 hours of them eating or they could regurge.

Did you buy an older snake at the pet store? 2 hoppers is a load for a young guy/girl.
