Feeding Schedule?

every feeding schedule/chart i've found online goes by weight. how can i tell when my snake is ready for more/bigger food without weighing him?

You should be able to eyeball it. Food should leave a noticeable lump in their tummy. If you can't see a bulge it's problem time to move up to the next size. Food items can be about 1.5 times as wide as their widest point so if need be, hold the mouse next to the snakes and use that as your guide. Scales are pretty inexpensive but I admit, I rarely weigh my snakes either.

Oops meant to say probably time not problem time. Blame the auto typing junk on my phone.

Just as solo said, if there is a lump in the snake's belly it is a good meal. I feed mine every seven days. Thus said, they are yearlings, and as adults can handle taking food down to every 14 days as long as it is a good sized meal. I know some members even offer their males food every 21 days. I personally would not switch them to this until they are at least 3 years though, as they are still growing significantly right now.

Thanks! that's what i've been doing. this last time he got it down pretty quick and the lump wasn't as big as it has been, so i gave him a second that he took right away. i've had him about 4-5 months and started with the pinkies and didn't realise i should give him 2 so i started giving him fuzzies maybe a little early but never had any problems with him regurgitating. should i stick with 2 fuzzies or move up a size?

Every three days is probably too much. IMO. I feed hatchlings through adults every 7 days. Even when they are hatchlings I would not offer food more often than every 5 days.

If the fuzzies no longer make a lump you can either double them or just switch to hoppers

I feed mine twice a week and he seems to be starving when I do feed him so I've been keeping him on pinkies for twice a week. However, since he's been growing I'm thinking about trying a fuzzy once a week, just hoping he can handle it.

How about 2 pinkies in the same feeding instead? My hatchlings are fed every 5-7 days. I will bump to 2 then 3 pinks in one meal before I will switch to a fuzzy.

I was thinking about doing that as well. I give him one pinky and he just chows down and he's got in gone in less than 5 minutes and seems as though he is searching around for another afterwards so I might try giving him two.

This is a natural hunting instinct, designed to find the rest of a nest of baby mice. It doesn't mean that he actually needs any more food, so beware of reacting to that behaviour.

Feeding "on demand" is a quick way to end up with a tubby Corn. Make sure that you're the one regulating his food intake as his instincts aren't adapted to the regular and guaranteed food supply in captivity.
