Feeding Schedule

My new Corn Snake is going to live in my classroom for much of the year. She will come home with me over breaks (she will spend Christmas with a coworker who keeps Ball Pythons, since I won't have my own place for Christmas) but mainly, she's going to live in my classroom.

When she is older, I'd like for my students to be able to handle her in supervised situations and small groups (2-3 students). They are HS students, 14 and older. I know you are not supposed to hold them when they have just fed- I've been told to give it a few days for them to digest.

Is there anything wrong with feeding her on a Friday, and allowing her to digest over the weekend, so that we can have 3-4 days to handle her during the week?

Personally, I don't subscribe to the 48 hour rule. I think 72 hours is better, especially when you've just bumped to the next prey size. I'd stick with feeding on Friday, and avoid handling until Tuesday. This still gives you from Tuesday until feeding time on Friday to handle. And keep in mind that SOMEONE is going to get crapped on eventually. :awcrap: :grin01:

Haha. It sounds like a perfect idea. I remember when I was in kindergaten my teacher had 3 racks full of snakes and we all got to feed them on fridays and hold them on monday.

I agree with roy its best 3-4days atleast to let them digest.my corn is normally done n 3.My boa regured when handled after 2.

All the snakes in my classroom get fed Friday's. Thursday would work well too, and still give you Monday through Thursday for handling. You could feed at the end of the day on Thursday. Didn't think of it until now, but it allows them a nice quiet weekend to lounge and digest!
