Feeding Story, Maybe Too Big?

We have had corns for only a few months but last night I fed our largest corn which is 36 inches and almost 300 grams a huge adult mouse that tipped the scales at 50 grams. I just picked it out of a bag at the pet shop and didn't realize until I thawed it out that is was that big and actually quite fat. It took about 15 minutes to get it down. Everything went OK until it got to the hind quarters and seemed to stop for a while. It even looped around the front of the head and pushed along the sides of the head with it's body. Finally it went to the water dish and put its head underwater. It then went back on the mouse about half an inch and turned its head sideways to finally swallow it's huge meal.

Is this normal or did feed I feed too large a mouse? :shrugs:

Made me quite nervous but I know in the wild snakes do this all the time. I think I will go back to a more normal sized adult like 25+ grams! The snake seems fine this morning! :)

That just happened to me last week- I didn't look at the mouse at the store, and when I opened the bag at home- it was gigantic. I fed my 42" corn anyway, and it went down ok. I had this feeling, though, that it was too big. I even took a picture of her- and the bulge didn't seem out of line. She regurgitated it two days later. I feel so bad. I am just waiting ten days till her next feeding, and then feeding a very small adult. I am not doing Nutribac since I don't think it was a husbandry issue, other than me being stupid. So- be prepared...I hope yours stays down.

Meanwhile, Maizey is cruising her viv, looking at me like she's starving.

Thanks Nanci for that info! It has been 48 hours now and no problems although he was completely in the water bowl tonight. He sometimes does that.

I think we've all fed an overly large meal once in a while but remember cornsnakes are animals of opportunity and will take prey that might be too large just in case there is no other food. They usually do just fine. You might want to wait a little extra time like 14 days before feeding again though, just to give it some exercise to work off the calories :)
