Since we moved into our house [november 2006]
our family has grown a lot. [rats, dogs, snakes, ...]

But for the first time, we've lost someone.
Frigg, one of my 2 rats, passed on.

Saturday I rushed to the vet with her,
cos she was making strange noises, like she couldn't breath normally
and she was laying down and couldn't get up.

The vet took an xray [or something] and there was nothing wrong with her lungs or heart.
But the heart was difficult to see, cos something was blocking the view.
He told me that she probably swallowed something wrong [cos the lungs and such were okay - and it was very acute]
and she couldn't get it out.

He gave her an injection, so the blockage would disappear.
He told me it was kind of a long shot.

The day passed and in the afternoon she was seemingly doing better.
Her breathing was calmer and when I tried to give her some food-replacing-liquid, she reacted on my presence.
Night came, we went to bed, Frigg tucked into a soft cloth.
3 o'clock in the morning my GF checked on her and she still had trouble breathing, but she had a "steady" breathing.

When I woke up - sunday 8:15AM - she wasn't moving anymore.
I'm gonna miss our little girl.
She - together with her sister Hlin - was the first pet we took into our home.

I miss her ...

I am so sorry for the loss of your little girl. I know how wonderful ratties can be and I know she left a hole. I have lost rats to resp problems and its not easy. One of my 2 boys is on meds for it now.
I know her cagemate is probably mourning too, ratties do that. I hope both your hearts heal.

I think so too. That's why me and my GF are looking for a new cagemate or 2.
We've been researching and found you should add a rat from the same age, or 2 younger rats.
We're looking for a new cage, so we can buy 2 new little sisters for Hlin.

I hope Hlin doesn't suffer too much from the loss.
They really were sisters.

I had to put my beloved rat down a couple of months ago and it's still frustrating for me to know he's gone.
I feel your pain and I'm very sorry for your loss.

Sorry about your rat. I've had them since I was 5 and have had plenty of losses. They are quite possibly one of the best pets, but their lifespans suck.

I am so sorry for your loss!

I had 3 big ole ratties, given to me at quite an old age. The two youngest died due to resp problems, leaving the big ole mumma on her own for months. She was a very sad rat indeed, but she was 2 old to get cagemates. She too passed, most likley from old age, but I think a broken heart contributed.

The'day the new cage arrives. At last !!
Now it's waiting 'til I'm home from work, then I can pick up Hlin's new cagemates.
Now it's 09:47 AM - that's another 7 hours..
I hope she's gonna like her new sisters.
