So I just got my first corn snake and everywhere I go people keep telling me different things for the heating. I've been told both a lamp and UTH, only a UTH, and only a lamp. Online I predominantly read to only use a UTH but when it says to measure the temperature of the warm side by placing thermometer at the top of the tank it reads about 70 degrees. So does the UTH only make my aspen the right temperature? All help appreciated please and thanks.

Most here only use a UTH and control the temperature of it using a thermostat. This is a popular thermostat around here for those on a budget:

The thermometer should have a probe and the temperature measured in the middle of the UTH under the substrate on the inside. The UTH is on the outside.

Corn snakes will burrow if they need to get to the maximum warmth. I keep a fake rock style hide over my thermometer probe to make a warm hide.

I almost forgot. Welcome :wavey:
