I'm glad to see Florida getting fed up with murderers. We injected one today!
Too easy for him in my opinion.

Bring back "Sparky" :flames:

We had a firearms buy-back and a tightening of gun ownership and storage laws after a nutso went on a rampage at a tourist attraction and killed a couple of dozen people. But even before then we had a much healthier attitude to the role of firearms in society than the US has ever had....Why is a semi- or automatic necessary in an urban or city area...or at all? I understand that farmers need to put down an injured animal from time to time and some people like to go hunting as a passtime (I have good friends who hunt, I'm not totally against it even though I'm not interested in doing it myself)...but why does a suburban John Q. Citizen need guns?

OK, now I hold my breath and wait for the americans to open fire!!!

ONE????....:roflmao:

We've off'd more than a third (340 of 957) of the nations total ner'-do-wells since the Death Penalty was reinstated by the high court in 1976. Heck, Harris County (Houston) has executed more people than every other state except Virginia!

Death Row stats

The whole point of unregulated firearm ownership by the masses traces its roots to the founding of this country. An armed citizenry prohibits a government from engaging in tyrannical activities. Evil people carryout evil acts when they are unopposed. ;)

HUNTING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. :twoguns:

Fantastic! hopefully Florida will get an "express lane" also.
Why give these people free room and board for 15 years or more?
Get it over with and move on......................NEXT!

It really depends on the culture you live in. What works well in one culture does not always work in another. I've lived in a small town in Wisconsin where there were no murders in my lifetime, and everyone leaves the doors on their homes unlocked all the time, when you go into the grocery store in the winter you leave the car unlocked and running with the keys in it, and during deer season we were allowed to bring our deer rifles to school and keep them in our lockers.

From that perspective I could ask the same question: why does John Q Suburbanite need locks on his doors?

If you study the American Constitution, you'll find that rights are not given to the people by the government, but that people have intrinsic freedoms and the government is allowed by the Constitution to regulate some of these, if there is a good reason to do so.

The perspective is that I do not have to justify my right to ____. on the contrary, the government has to justify why it wants to take away peoples' right to ____.

Kinda scary Jen, but i can't think of anything Mr. White has ever said that I disagree with :shrugs:

ooh, nice thread here. Princess, one of the funny things about crimes commited with firearms is.......they are commited by criminals (tada!).

One case, when this one dude a few years ago went onto the New York subway and started randomly shooting people, he ended up killing somewhere's around 7 innocent people.

Immediately President Clinton said, "My gosh! If this 10 round clip that this guy used for his ammo had been able to hold less ammo, then less people would have died! Let's make this size of clip illegal." Nevermind that the guy was a convicted felon, and wasn't supposed to have a firearm...period...So he was already breaking the law by having the gun, and then already breaking the law by killing people. How would restricting legal gun use keep someone like this from commiting crimes, if that's what they intend to do? Why would they care how many laws they are breaking?

Now think to yourself. If you happened to be riding on the subway when this happened, would you rather:

A: Be sitting next to Oprah Winfrey, a very loud opponent of firearm ownership

or

B: My uncle, who is a licensed handgun owner who has undergone rigorous safety training with firearms, is a retired firefighter, and just happens to have a loaded handgun on his person.

hmmm..

Well, for one, people who are convicted of a murder and sentenced to death receive an automatic appeal before the Florida Supreme Court.

That takes time. There is about a 2-3 month window during the year when the FL Supreme Court ONLY hears death penalty cases.

And then due to the stupid appeals process we have, you can appeal after that, which takes about 30 years---damn good waste of tax payers money.

You're exactly right. Fire up ol' sparky and let em' roast---simple as that.

Either charge old Sparky up or we could always send them to South Sweden. :madeuce:

I say why not euthanaise them in a decent way like we do with dogs and cats? There's no need to gas or zap them, why not have a doctor administer a big dose of barbiturates and end it in a more pleasant way...I know that people are on death row because of 'unpleasant' thigs they did but it doesn't mean we have to be unpleasant back. Heck, why don't we impale them and let them dehydrate in pain over the course of 2-3 days...or stone them??? Why can't we be humane about it?

...Ooh, had an idea, how about we put a whole bunch of death row-ers in a big arena together with weapons and do it gladiator style??? They can televise it on pay-per-view...last one standing gets a pardon from the govenor!!! :sidestep: :grin01:
