Getting corn

Hi, I hope to be getting a corn soon. This will be my first snake, but I've been doing a lot of research on them,I was just wondering if anyone could give me a list of everything I would need to get started keeping a corn, such as aquarium size etc. Thanks in advance.

Search around, this topic usually comes up like once a week.

For basics, 10-20 gallon aquarium, under the tank heater, thermometer, a pair of hides (one for the warm side the other for the cool side) substrate( do a search on that too) water dish and some decoration.

if you dont want to upgrade tanks get a 20g long(they can live in it there whole lives), substate aspen if u want a more natral look you should reseach on good substate, 2 thermometer (one for each side), hydometer(for humidity) lock for the mesh top, a heat souce for day and one for night (if were you live the room temp drops below 70F). decoration optional.

good luck hope i helped. :)

Thanks again everyone.I'll get the Cornsnake Manual as soon as I can.I've looked in my local bookstore but they don't have it so I have to order it online.

I'm really new at this too...but I saw the Cornsnake Manual by Kathy Love at Petsmart today(I know Petsmart isn't the greatest, but I needed a second hide). I bought mine off of Amazon.

Here's 2 pictures of the home for my new snake, he arrives tomorrow morning(also my first).

Oh you'll see a 'snake-like' creature in there, its not real. My roommate freaked me out by putting a plastic snake in there.

Looks nice but I don't know that you want two heat lamps in there. One side should be cooler. In the low 70's and the other side warm. In the 80's. Doesn't necessarily mean the air has to be that warm on the warm side if you have an Under Tank Heater. If you don't have a UTH, then you'll need a heat lamp like you have. The only problem with the white light is that you'll want to turn it off at night, resulting in too low a temp on the warm side. Again, if you have a UTH, this won't be a problem. Otherwise, you might want to get a red light that you can use 24/7.

Thanks for checking up on me Meg(I need it),

I do have 2 lamps, but the black one is turned off during the day and turned on at night(the white is turned off). Its a black light that still puts off heat(so its still warm) at night to keep it as natural as possible. Oh...btw...the little guy got here about an hour and a half ago and was super active. He was checking out the whole place(climbing on stuff and testing it out). He's sleeping now under one of his hides. I would send a pic but don't want to disturb him.

Its going to be frustrating not being able to hold him for a few days.

Daniel
