I find that lichen coloration insanely difficult to capture photographically; it usually washes out or shows as gray. Even more so from the standpoint of I and many other well-experienced photographers failing to capture this coloration in wild male banded rock rattlesnakes, which are known for displaying such color.

Can't agree with you more. If you look closely, the lichen doesn't have the classic deep green/bluish coloration. There is a dead tree next to my house and lots of debris is falling off. I gather a nice piece of bark and let it dry for a few days. This is how it turn out. I was more interested in capturing the purple "Hue" out of the snake which I think is extremely difficult as the pink washes it away.

I love that snake!! Grrr- why couldn't Fred and Lily have come through for me??? :) I'm glad your snakes did, though!! And I also noticed the perfect coloration of the lichens, which means the snake is perfect, too.
