Guess on the sex?

These pics are posted in another thread that was posted for a different purpose, so I thought I'd make a new thread for it and see I it got more answers. Hope this is the right spot to put it. I know the amel is male. The candycane was sold to me as female (from a pet store, so don't really trust it anyways.) based on te tail, does she's look male or female? I know this is not the most accurate way to tell sex, but no one near me can probe them. Thanks for any help.

Lol I hope not. Looks female to me as well. I only say so cause "her" tail looks different then the one I know for sure is male. But with m luck it probably is a male.

I say male, unfortunately. 'Her' tail does not look much different from the male's tail. The taper is a long slow process on the candycane.

I'll go take some pictures of my known-female tails if you want?

I was gonna say male :( but if it makes you feel better I'm not the greatest at sexing by looking at the tail, I can usually get it by being able to look in person at it and feel the tail though. The reason I say male is that it looks wide and quite long. Just my 2 cents :)

Pics of a female tail would help, thanks. Guess I should keep looking for a female lol only reason I even care is I was going to try breeding for the first time. They're both pets anyways so I guess it's not to big of a deal.

I have to go take my foster-pup to the no-kill shelter now (they're a great facility, do good medicine, and a super picky about who adopts the dogs they take in) but I'll grab some batteries on my way home and and get you pictures of as many of my 7 girls as I can.

I agree Male, and Male.....

From the vent count the number of scales before the tail starts to taper off. "MOST" (not all) females will go about 3-6 scales and start tapering. "MOST" (not all) males will go out 6 or more scales. The tail is where the male snakes hide their boy parts. By looking at the pics I would say both are males....

Just count the scale rows past the vent. Male have longer tails and thus more scale rows. Males will have between 70 and 80 pairs of subcaudal scale rows and females will have between 59 and 70.

Here are two comparison photos...

Male.... you will notice about the 9th to 10th scale that it starts tapering off.....

Female... you will notice about the 4th to 5th scale it starts tapering off....

"If" your gonna sex by tail, whether you choose to or don't have the means to probe, I have found this is the easiest way for me to tell or at least give it a good guess....This is not 100% accurate way to tell a snakes sex but so far it has worked great when I haven't had the probe kit around.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think it's safe to say my candycane is a male, unfortunately. Guess I should change his name lol any suggestions? I went and looked at both of their tails, but I can't tell when it starts to taper. I'll take your word for it.
