How are you actually ment to go about picking your snake up? is there a correct way to do it?! he is very frisky i know hes nervous but>

I always try not to just grab them from above as this can really frighten them (it probably feels like being snatched up by a swooping bird.) Where possible I try to slide my hand under from the side so the snake knows I'm coming.

So long as you don't suddenly snatch him up unexpectedly it should be fine.

agreed with the above, also put your hand in slowly and slowly move towards your buddy and hold still for a few seconds so it can get a chance to find out who you are, after a while it won't be so sketchy, also remember to end the handling session on a good note, meaning after he slithers away from your hand close the lid and let that be the end of it, so if you had to move anything to get at him replace it while he is out

I will put my hand on them to see how frisky they are feeling. Most of the time I just slide my hand under their belly, raising them up and use my free hand to gather up the butt end. Let them explorer your hands and just keep rotating your hands in front of them. I wouldn't recommend trying to block the snake from moving around. This is one of the few times that I saw my python bite. I had let my Mom (no less) hold her and I was busy with another snake and didn't really take notice that she kept putting her hand in front of the snake in attempt to keep her in place. So the snake finally got tired of it and bit her. :shrugs:

Is he frisky in your hands or just when you pick him up? Nagini was very frisky when I first got him. the best method I found was to scoop him up from the side before he had a chance to run. After he was in my hands he was fine, it was the picking up part he didn't like  . Your baby should calm down as it gets older and more used to you. Good luck!

my female runs from me sometimnes when i go to pick her up, once im holding her shes fine.

just when picking your corn up, do it by mid body, not the head, other wise they may get worried and think your a reditior

picking him up

yes it is just when I go 2 pick him up, he is absoluply fine when I actually have him!
I shouldnt be worried anyway cus baby corn snake bites dont even hurt!????

I was very nervous about picking mine up at first, and it bit me. Now I just quickly get in there, scoop, and once she/he is in my hands, it's all good.
Strange.

Oh...and, no it doesn't hurt, but it's not the greatest feeling in the world! :p

It bit me one other time, while I was holding it, and dropped the snake out of shock. It didn't even leave a mark, but I knew it bit me :)

Hatchling snake bite: paper cut that's gone in 2 mins. Adult snake bite: pin pricks that are gone in 5 mins. Mosquito bite: day-long itchy torture that seems never-ending. Adult cat scratches: deep cuts that may require plasters and sympathy. Falling over in the street: grazes that take a week to heal and many bruises to your pride. Getting the idea?

Open viv, put hand slowly in, let snake see it. Get a hold of it (not squishing it, but enough..... friction? to keep it on your fingers) lift and put other hand under other end. If it bites, it bites. Pick it up anyway.
