If my reptile basking bulb broke is it okay for me to buy a bulb from lowes with the same wattage and voltage called a grow bulb ?
 
It's more appropriate for you to post this in the Care section then the photo gallery, like your other thread.

I personally would just get a heat mat and a thermostat. Much easier and more reliable. Good luck and sorry about your baby that passed. Some just aren't meant to make it n
 
probs, but i'd recommend buying an under tank heater and a thermostat. snakes prefer belly heat to basking.
 
I went to the store and got an under tank heater today my tank is on top of my dresser but the heater came with rubber feet so that it is lifted a little above should I put the uth on the bottom still or should I worry about fire hazards
 
Place the mat on the side of the tank but since snakes like belly heat and that's what it's for it would defeat the purpose
 
You need to put the rubber feet on the bottom of the tank, on the black trim. There needs to be an air gap under the tank so the heat from the UTH doesn't build up. The UTH also needs to be plugged into a thermostat or it's going to get to hot.

I have enclosures sitting on a dresser with UTH's on them and it's not a problem and I don't worry about it being a fire hazard.
 
I have had two fires from UTH's. That said, I have run literally scores of them and for many years and continue to run several. I would be a bit hesitant about using a heater designed to go on the side as a UTH, though you are right that it would do little good producing side heat (for any species I can think of, for that matter). What brand is it? Is there a customer service number on the package?
 
Aw, just ask them if it is safe to use as an under the tank heater! They'll be nice!
 
It can be used on the bottom of the tank but how could I hook up a thermostat to the mat because it doesn't have a place to plug in one but I have one
 
Put the probe directly on the heat pad, and adjust temps until it reaches 85-86 on the glass. You really should get this part taken care of before getting the snake!
 
I used to have a homemade incubator that I used a thermostats on and we crossed the wires with the bulb so that we could regulate the temperature and the thermostat would keep the incubator at a certian temperature I still have that thermostat could I just do it that way
 
The UTH will plug into the thermostat and the thermostat plugs into your electrical outlet. You want to make sure you secure the thermostat probe onto the glass inside the enclosure (in the very middle of the UTH).

The same goes for thermometer probes. You want the warm side probe to be secured right next to your thermostat probe and cool side secured onto the bottom at the opposite end. This way you make sure the hottest point of your tank isn't going to be a danger to your snake since they definitely will burrow down to the glass.
