Hello!

I'd like to introduce myself (Olivia) and my dear Evelyn to all of you wonderful, knowledgable people.

I have always loved snakes, but until recently, I couldn't stand the idea of feeding them. (I'm way over that now). So I set off on my snake journey, reading about and researching species and personalities, and stopped in to read this forum along the way. I finally settled on a corn snake.

Looking at all the morphs, I fell in love with the pictures of adult charcoals. Local leads didn't pan out, so once again I turned to the internet.

I got Evelyn a couple weeks ago from a lovely breeder in Texas. She is still just a baby- D.O.B. 8/6/15. She arrived safe and healthy, and has proven to have a wonderful temperament. My profile picture is of us watching TV. She sat on my shoulder for half an hour, then snaked down to lay in my lap under a blanket for the rest of the evening.

I love her dearly, but she's already given me a couple heart attacks by escaping her tank a few times (especially scary as I have 3 cats and a dog), and waiting through her first shed has been nerve-wracking. Luckily for me, she has no reservations about taking thawed pinkies!

We hope to meet many wonderful people around this forum, and we would love to be able to rely on you for any problems we might have!

Welcome to the forum! I too am a HUGE fan of charcoals. All the grays, really, but charcoal is definitely my fave. :D

From another Olivia, welcome to the forum! Did you figure out how she escaped so you can prevent it from happening again? She's really cute.

Greetings Hoosier neighbor! :wavey: Charcoals are definitely awesome, and you've got an adorable little lady there. :) You've come to the right place for advice and camaraderie!

Yes, hope you have that figured out! After the 1st escape I'd be fixing the problem. It's no fun not knowing where your snake is! :crying:

Congrats and welcome to the forum! Your little Evelyn is so precious.

Post some pics of your eclosure and ask for help on the escapes. Many here have escape experience and good ideas for snake-proofing your enclosure.

Very cute snake! Congrats on becoming a snake parent. Like the others said, there are lots of people here who could help trouble shoot the escapes with you.

Welcome again!

Welcome to the forum! Very pretty baby you have!
There is lots of information here, and if you cannot find what you need using the search function, be sure to ask!

Thank you all so very much! Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I know how she's been getting out. The tank is supposed to have a sliding lid that locks, but it broke a few years back. I got a regular lid from my pet store and thought it would be okay, but I didn't quite make the best judgment on how small a crack such a small snake can squirm through. As a temporary measure, I took her climbing trees out and there have been no more escapes, just some "oh no she's not in any of her hides did she get out *quick dig though the aspen until she's found*". I am going to have to break out the caulk here eventually though, and fix it so that she can have her trees back as she's obviously pretty into climbing lol.
I might try and upload a picture of her tank later though. If you wanted to check it out and make any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them!
Nice to hear from everyone!
