Thank you so much to everyone who responded. After reading most of the responses a few days ago I was confident enough to just stick my (mitten covered) hand in there and get him! I've done it three days in a row now and he still strikes at me every time but I think it's getting progressively better. Once he's out of the viv and in my hands he doesnt bite anymore, he's just a little jumpy. Hopefully after a few weeks of this 5 minute handling a day routine Ive got going on he'll realize he likes me! Thanks again!

Try leaving one of the mittens in the viv after a handling session, that way he'll have your scent around him and will become accostomed to it that much quicker.
 
Ya gotta love them Google Ads....the current one at the top was for dog obedience. :)
