I didnt know up until today that my corn needs two hides, one for each side of the tank... i have an exo-terra hide on the heat pad side, so until i can buy an actual hide fromt he store, is there anything i could use temporarily?
Toilet Paper Tube, Papertowel Tube, any Box of appropriate size, a deli cup (not the clear ones) with a notch cut out for an opening (course that doesnt matter they can crawl under anyway) All of mine ignore almost all the hides I use and can generally be found under their waterdish :grin01:
I have two hides that I made out of flat pieces of sandstone, which I picked up at the local fish store for about $.50 a piece. They were intended for aquarium use, but work great as little natural caves. Just be sure they are securely planted in the substrate so your snkae can't knock the pieces off on top of itself and cause an injury.
I also have a small, plastic coffee container that I cut in half, "drilled" a few holes in with an X-acto knife and laid on it's side.
Really...anything that is small enough to be close and dark enough to give security will work...

For babies, I use 4" plastic azalea pots with an opening cut in the side. The babies like to climb in and out of the drainage holes For my yearlings and two year olds, I use Folger's coffee containers, the plastic ones they came out with a few years ago. I get two hides out of each container by cutting it around the middle, using the bottom for one hide and the top (with lid attached) for another. My adults are using FedEx boxes frozen mice came in. As I get a new order of mice every month, I can change out the boxes whenever they need replacing.
