Hog Island Boas

Was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on keeping hog island boas. I've been looking into them a bit, and being tax refund time and all :santa: , am getting a little more serious about branching out. The smaller size is a big factor for me, as I still have small kids and don't want anything too big around them.

Not looking to breed at all, just a single pet (of course that's what I said about corns too at first, lol).

Thanks for any input

I keep a Hog Island Boa and he is my favorite snake in the house. Well hes not in the house at the moment but you get my drift. Care is the same as any basic boa constrictor. Temps need to be a bit higher than corns. Mine has the sweetest temperment and I torment him A LOT. As him being my favorite snake I handle him a ton. If your worried about size you may want to stick with a male as USUALLY they stay a little smaller as with most species of snakes.
I know there are a few others that keep them as well you may get opinions from. Hope this helps and if you have more questions ask away.
Im not sure who is sitting on babies right now but its early in the season so keep your eyes peeled and Im sure you will find one you like.

Thanks for the reply. I can't stop checking out pics of these guys, and I think I'm hooked. There's a reptile store near me that I've seen them at before, so might be taking a quick trip out there this weekend. The wife seems to be ok with the idea, so giddy up :crazy02:

Please excuse the angry looking woman in the pic, that's what a day at my job will do to ya. *lol* This is my 2001 girl Dyna, she's a big sweetie. Need to get a good pic of her boyfriend FatBoy. She has been laid back since the day I received her, he had a few issues. He has improved greatly but in the past I would have put him in a hissing contest against a king cobra. I love my hogs and still amazed by the color changes they go through. I think you would be very happy if you add one to your home.

I gotta say thanks for that pic... angry woman an all  (I think we've all had jobs that could do that to us). But seriously, that's great for getting a better idea of the size issue. Definitely not too big. And I'm definitely intrigued by the color change thing. That's one of the things that got my attention about them. Thanks much  . Now just gotta hope the herp store near me has some. I'm not too good at the whole patience thing once I get my mind set and I have some extra cash, lol
