how did you convince your parents, spouse, etc?

I've always wanted one too, but just waited till I was old enough to not have to ask permission I guess. I still live at home, but obviously being 26 I can just come and go as I please. So I just sort of surprised my grandpa with Bobo and then :grin01: when she was lost, he was the one who found her. He's held her a few times, but usually gives her back to me rather quickly. I guess he is kind of afraid of them, but too manly to admit it.

When I got my first snake, I just hid it from my mother. :)
Well aside from the Garter snakes I had when I was 7, I bugged my Mom about getting one for a while. Then she left town for a couple of days and I got one. I hid it from her for about a month. Then I started asking her why I couldn't get one. When she said that the "cage" would stink, I replied, "well I've had a snake for a month and you haven't complained about the smell yet." She laughed and then called me a bad word. When I got the 20 or so snakes after that, before moving out of her house, she called me a whole lot of bad words. My mother and I have an interesting relationship. She is very supportive of my hobby now that I don't live with her anymore. She often starts our phone conversations with "how are the animals?"

My boyfriend was not keen on having pets as we live in an appartment, but I slowly worked on him and for my birthday the presented me with a 'gift certificate' allowing me to go out and get whatever fish tank my heart desired....so I flipped it around a little and told him that a terrarium takes up no more room than an aquarium and snakes are interactive, you can actually handle them whereas I don't think the fish like being stroked....He was really strong and stuck to his guns for a while but it was mainly feeling uncomfortable around reptiles that was the issue, so I took him to a local exotics zoo and asked the owner Frank, to let Thomas play with a cornsnake. After 2 minutes, Thomas' comfort level rose from about 2/10 to abot 6/10 just because that whole 'fear of the unknown' had been taken away. Also, he always has thought that snakes with slit pupils looks nasty and he likes the cornsnakes round pupils...fast forward to about a month later and we attended a reptile show and came home with Alka and Seltzer!

Those first 2 were joined by Mylanta (who turned out to be Myls!) about 2 months later and these days we're up in the 30's somewhere!

When I got my first snake I wasn't living at home, so there wasn't any issue with my parents. I'm afraid they think I have issues though. *lol*

When I met Mike I made one thing quite clear...."If you ever fall in love with me, fall in love with my snakes as well. I won't get rid of them for anyone". Little did I know that by just placing my largest female corn around his neck I would be creating a monster. I had 4 corns at the time. After a few trips to different reptile expos (the first being our honeymoon at the Breeder's Expo in Daytona) and a good breeding season we got close to 200 snakes. We now stand at 35 but who knows what next spring will bring.

I have wanted a snake since i was about 8. But there was no chance my parents would let me! I kept on going on and on and on about it for years, but still no luck... Recently, i started an animal management course, and my dad saw me mature a lot during this time, and he ACTUALLY suggested it!! I was sooooo shocked!! That was it, i was getting one and there was no way he could change his mind!! MWAHAHAHAHA!! :grin01:
