How do you avoid stunting growth?

I heard that you can stunt a snakes growth, and I really wanted to avoid this.
So I was curious, what stunts a snake's growth? and how can it be avoided?

And what is the best way to see the progress of your snakes growth, other than simple observations?

I'm not 100% sure but I'll throw some ideas out for you to think on until someone else can reply with more info.

Stunting the growth comes from having a "basic" diet for your snake. Rather then feeding what the snake can handle some people will feeding it the smallest amount. IE: Snake coudl handle a large fuzzie, they feed it a small pinkie. Understand? As long as you feed your snake what he/she can handle you'll be fine. Don't over load it though, watch your snake eat if you can and see if he/she struggles with the size you are feeding, if so cut back a size if he/she eats it with no problem and seems to be looking for more then you could add another mouse of the same size or take it up a size. Trust your snake.

As far as seeing the progress of your snake, pictures and weight. Thats the simplest thing that I can think of.

I hope this helps some, I'm sure someone else will be able to add more and explain better.

I don't know if you can really "stunt" it's growth permanently, if you feed it less frequently it will just grow at a slower rate.

I would agree with the above comments - feeding less then the basic amount will make it grow slower.
In order to better track growth I would use a gram scale. You can get them fairly cheap at Walmart or even on Ebay!

I might go pick one up.

I was just curious because a man said that it could happen, and I would feel terrible if my year and a half old corn couldn't reach his maximum natural length.

Stunted growth is also somewhat relative. Keep in mind that genetic factors also play a role as to how fast they will grow. I have an '04 anery that just hit 200 grams. She was fed every week an appropriate sized meal and never missed a meal. I also have a '05 who just passed 400g; same feeding schedule. If you feed a proper sized meal on a proper schedule then you have nothing to worry about (assuming your corn is 100% healthy otherwise).

So by hat you are all saying, I would need to be trying to hurt my snake in order to stunt his growth?

So since I do treat him right, he will grow fine reguardless?

Yea, as long as you are doing everything right you'll be fine. As long as you are giving him the right sized meals each time he'll grow fine.
