How do you get your Humidity down?

The past 2 days my humidity as been 70% - 73%. Was wondering how do I get it lowered. The water bowl is on the cool side of the tank. My tank is 40 gal so its far away from the heat lamp. Is this to high for my corn? Hope someone can help. Tks.

What's the cover of the tank made of? What is the humidity of the room?

The cover is the metal screen. And not sure the humidity of the room. The snake is in my living room but never checked the humidity there.

It would be interesting to know what your house humidity is. If it's the same as the viv, there's really nothing you can do except run a dehumidifier or air conditioning, which I don't think you need up there! Does your house thermostat have a humidity reading on it? Can you take the thing you read the humidity in the viv with out and read what your room humidity is?

When i gets off work today i am gonna test the humidity of the house. hopefully i can do something. cause 70 is to high isn't it?

I read somewhere in here how to make sure your humitidy gadget is reading right. It said to use salt in a shot class and make it a bit wet. almost like wet sand but cant' remember how much salt it said to use. do anyone remember reading that thread?

this is just a theroy but try putting dry sponges in the tank with a fam pointing down.....because that is how a dehumidifer works with sponged and fans...I have never tried but its worth a shot...

If your room is not that humid a fan should help. I don't see how it would get so high unless the water is leaking in to the substrate or there is not much ventilation.

well i checked the humidity in the house and its reading the same as the tank. ??????? wish i knew if my humidity gadget was correct for sure. I tried finding the thread that was talkin bout salt in shot glass but cnat' find it. sigh. The tank got lots of ventilation. the water isnt' leaking on the substrate and its not near the warm side. so hopefully 70% isnt' gonna have ill effects on my lil guy.

I wouldn't worry about it. I assume this is a seasonal phenomena where it's high in the summer and low in the winter? You're in Newfoundland, right? Just keep the ambient air temperature in the warm end of your tank appropriately high and let your snake think he's in South Carolina. He'll be just fine.

Right now in Florida, also home of cornsnakes, where we had a shower a few hours ago, it's 84% outside, and 51% in the house, where the AC has been running all day.

Whew tks. now i feel better. it was in the perfect range until we started to get the warm weather but it wont' last fer long. lol by september it will cool down so the humitidy will also. tks again. you both made my day. lol
