whats your opinions do you think she is too skinny or is that a normal weight on how many pinkies i should feed i know the fuzzy's are still to big for her. she is around 17 inches long and in the pic there is a pinkie in its mouth so that might help determine thickness i used the serpwidget to measure thats why i have that 3x5 index card in the pic i have been feeding 2 pinkies every 4 days

so you mean im feeding it too soon because i have been feeding it 2 pinkies every 4 day and its never turned it down but i am new to this and dont want my corn having health issues for over feeding it i just thought it was small if you read my other thread http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130030 i was told it might be around 9 months i have seen other peoples 1 yr old corns and they look huge compared to mine

if the food lump lasts for three days and you're feeding every four days, then yes it's too much. some snakes are smaller and they don't all grow at a certain rate. snakes are opportunist eaters and will eat every day if you let them. in captivity they aren't getting the exersize they'd be getting hunting on their own.

it's pretty impossible to judge a snakes age based on a photo. i have some 2011's that are smaller than some of my 2012's.

is there any way to find out age or is knowing the hatch date from breeder the only way im just wicked curious not that it really matters but thought it would be nice to compare notes to other corns i buy in the future this time i will be buying from a good breeder not petco

the closest you can get is an approximate. 17 inches i would say is between 6 and 9 months old. most corns are brumated in the fall and are bred in late winter/early spring. they're usually sold after three/four weeks from hatch. so it's probaby a really late 2012 or super early 2013. i can't get any closer than that, but maybe someone else will chime in.

I can't help with age. Size is so dependent on how often he was fed before you got him and if he ate right away as a hatchling or if he refused any of his first meals.

I agree with Cody on the feeding schedule though. Every 4 days is to close together when feeding double pinks, every 6-7 days would be better.

Ive been feeding my corn two pinkies every Saturday.his lump lasts about two to three days as well.ive had him for two months already he already shedded twice with me. I got him from petco so idk how long they keep there snakes if someone doesnt buy them. Im gonna start feeding him one fuzzy every Saturday after his nex feed. I already fed him a fuzzy just to try it out n he ate it fine and the lump lasted a good while about three to four days if i remember. Id say if ur feeding him every four days that might be too much especially two pinkiies. Im gonna try making my pics smaller n upload them n show u my guy eatin a fuzzy wuzzy hehe n then an after picture of his big ol lump.
