How to sell a snake

Seaweed

Isaac
I am leaving for USAF basic training later this year and, obviously, I won't be able to take my cornsnake with me. I would like to sell my snake, but the problem is, I have no idea how I would go about doing this, or what a reasonable asking price for the snake would be.
My cornsnake is a bloodred male, about 8 or 9 years old, I'm not exactly sure. He is 3 ft. 4 in. long and is perfectly healthy. I can post pictures if needed.
I live in central California (Stockton, to be precise) & I've asked around the local mom & pop pet stores, but none of them seem interested in buying him. I would prefer to be able to sell him locally, as I've done a bit of research and shipping a snake seems like quite a hassle.
So any advice on pricing and selling my snake would be greatly appreciated!

I think at this stage, the price isn't your main consideration. As you're having trouble selling to pet shops, that would indicate that there isn't much of a market for Corns where you are. I'd concentrate more on rehoming to the right person, rather than selling.

Bloodreds are nice, but they're not top-end morphs. Even if you could work out how to ship, the cost of shipping would probably outweigh what he's worth so I think you're probably right to discount that as an option.

Morph prices vary by area as availability fluctuates, so as Megan suggests, check out craigslist to see whether Corns sell around you and how much you can expect for it.

Might also be worth trying Google for reputable reptile rescues or shelters. Never hurts to have a Plan B and the USAF won't want to be kept waiting!

Before it is reported any more times, Rich has made a ruling and I quote:

Or find someone that can hold on to him until after basic. I do know that you can't keep animals in the dorms, so it might be better to rehome. I would say Craiglist!

Actually, hubby just pointed out that you can't have snakes in any base housing in the Air Force.

And good luck in Basic, you will love Lackland and San Antonio!

I hated Lackland and San Antonio...LOL

Seaweed, what AFSC are you going into? I was EOD for 4 years and 2 months... So far they were the most exciting and difficult years of my life, definitely made a worthwhile impact on my life.

LOL I didn't mind it but I was only there for 2 weeks! Our room was in the old dorm room on the basic training side of the base. Brought back lots of memories for hubby.

Seaweed, Hubby was a maintainer/weapons troop for 18 yrs.

Oh, I love Lackland now. I try to make a stop by there every time I go home to visit. I hated it at the time though...LOL

I actually don't know what job I'm going to get yet, still on the waiting list to go to the MEPS. But I scored well on the ASVAB so pretty much every job is open to me. EOD was actually one of the main ones I was considering, along with UAV Sensor Operator- but EOD gets that nice big re-enlistment bonus :)
How was your time in EOD?

My time in EOD was awesome for the most part. But, with the major pull out of the war zones that we are expecting, your time should be different than mine. I had two deployments to Afghanistan, the first one I got blown up, and the second one I almost got shot with an M-4 (friendly fire), an AT4 Anti Tank RPG, various AK-47's and PKM's. I threw my back out of whack on my second deployment, which was in 2009, and have not healed completely from it yet. What pushed me to get out was the loss of a good friend, and EOD brother of mine, Brian Berky.

Though, like I said, your time in will not reflect what I went through. And, in fact, many of the people I served with haven't seen half of what I have. I can tell you this though. No other Career in the Airforce comes close to EOD when it comes down to how much fun we have!

Hehehe there is another member on here Eddie he is now retired from the Air Force but he was AMMO. He met his wife in AMMO too.

Hubby always wanted to go for LE but you had to be security forces first. His favorite time was in special ops working on the MH-53s. You will see a lot of the world. He has been all over Europe and some of Asia. He says he wouldn't trade his time in for anything else. He is now in the reserves finishing his 20. woot woot 2 yrs to go.
